View Full Version : Consolidated Homebrew Map Thread: Post your A&A maps here.

This thread is for maps and discussion, and is intended to bring together the creative energy that some people exhibit in trying to make A&A a better game. There is a separate sticky thread just for maps also.
If possible, post a link instead of the actual map. That will make downloading much easier and kinder on the poor souls who still have dialup.
Edit:
<Cheer> Defiance posted his v1.0 of his map that has garnered so much praise.
Nuclear has posted what I have dubbed the "Mega Territory Map 2000" map that has an amazing number of territories. Dead zone strategists beware!

Anyone have a good scan of the map that people can use in Paint or any other such program?
A good base from which to work from would go a long way towards having viable alternate maps posted here.

I think that advanced axis & allies is only going to be playable on a computer
I have thought this for quite some time through the designing phases on the larry harris board.
I think that we should all take this into account when thinking about how it will eventually be played.
Pehrpas the mechanics might be playable in an f2f fashion, but the feasabiity of a full game being played this way is really circumspect.
i do not think this thread should be a sticky. stickies are annoying and take up space. this thread does not warrent a sticky
I'd have to agree. Possibly if lots pf people actually posted some maps things would be different, but several weeks later the count is still at one.

Is that a comment you're posting ModSin? ;)
Why is it that it's always canadians that are a pain? What have I done to that country. I lived a year in alaska and traveled through canada, is that it? Or is it just a country full of smartypants posters?
OR maybe its the no hockey this year, I'll bet that's it...
I was hoping to use this as a place to catalog maps. However if people don't post any maps here soon I will dissolve the sticky.

Must agree 100% with Pagan, even if I don't like all the IPC values or the particular addition of Denver to the map I think it's one of the best looking maps i've ever seen.

If you want to use this thread to talk about maps here fine. No discussion in the other stickied thread though please.

Nice start, but please try to address the Pacific more accurately. The distances from LA to Tokyo and LA to Berlin are close. See below:
Here is another graphic example of the distances involved.
http://www.losangelesalmanac.com/topics/Transport/tr52.htm
From LA to Tokyo by air is approximately 5478 miles. To fly from LA to Berlin is 5798 miles. Look at a game board of AAR. To go from LA to Germany is 7 spaces via Canada, but LA to Tokyo is 5 spaces. There really does need to be another space on the board between LA and Tokyo. That way, the US can't stage an invasion from Midway, b/c Midway would be 3 spaces away and the US transports would be loaded and sitting ducks.
I know the game board is disproportionate; this I can accept because of the needs of the game. (Ex: Germany is way bigger than it should be, South America has been shrunk) The size changes are fine, but the geographic distances can be quite wrong.

Newaxis is on the ball!
I too like the idea of smaller territories, and although I am not a fan of the city circles I guess they work too. I would like to see more open spaces in the Pacific Ocean to slow the American push to Japan, and create more of a need for island hopping. Still, it is good to see another map coming together!

Defiance's Map:

Wow! This looks GREAT. But is it playable with so many areas?
Also: like the Sahara and Australian Desert zones!

Wow! Also an impressing piece of labour. But again... is it playable!
Like the Spain/Sweden/Chili/Argentina thing!

i dislike Nuclear's map. In my opinion, alot of radical things were done to "improve gameplay". First off, Libya had absolutely no resources in it, and was thus worth nothing. I can understand making the entire colony worth 1 IPC, but making it worth 4 is just sick. especially the two desert areas. Also, Rio De Oro should be yellow, since spain owned it, and since Portugal is yellow as well, so should Mozambique and that other colony across from it. That brings me to another subject: this map is unreadable in the size you uploaded it was. It looked so good at first glance, I almost printed it, but then I noticed that the size is just way too small. Moscow is unacceptably out of place (moving it a little bit east would be OK, but this is just sick). Also, I don't see why you neglected the fact that there were Axis convoys too, feeding Libya supplies, bringing resources from the Pacific to Japan, and a non-axis convoy you missed: the Murmansk lend-lease from the U.K. to the Soviet Union. I also noticed that most of the USSR's industry can be taken out within the first three to four turns, if Germany is willing to pay for it. This is really unrealistic, considering the fact that half of the USSR's industry was east of the Urals, while only 1 industry is east of the Urals of the seven Russia has on your map. I could go on and on, but I need to get on to other things. I'll leave with a good comment, though: The Pacific looks good.
