I've played so few games and no new ones in the last 5 years so I have no clue what's out there. And I don't want to waste my hard-earned student loan money on just any game in the bargain-bin. :D

They can be theatre games or the whole war. So what's your favourite and why?

The Close Combat series is great! The Russian Front (part III) is the best. It't tactical and realtime. Great game. But don't expect too much of the AI. As in all games, I must say.
In strategy games the AI is most of the time even worse than in tactical games. Strategic: CIV III is okay. And Panzer general (1 and 2 ) and Allied general are good games (don't buy Panzer General III, it s*cks).
I don't think you can still buy the panzer and allied general games in shops today, but it's easy to download them and get them for free! Or check sites like eBay.

BTW: Has anyone played Korsun Pocket? I'm wondering if it's now worth the $40 it's been reduced to, or if I should wait for the $19.99 bin.

Wait for the bin. Not bad, not good. I didn't like it. But who am I?

As Schwalbe said: All the Civilization series games are good for almost any historical scenarios. Civ III is the newest ones. Its a non RTS game. Has alot do to with governments, diplomacy, economics, and of course military. Its one of the better stratigy games out their. But its not WWII centered.

The Sudden Strike series are awesome. Blitzkrieg series, and Panzers are good games too.
