A trend I'm seeing in my games is for the American to submerge its Haw SZ sub (if the attacking DD doesn't detect it), making it available for a US1 counter-attack. This increases the likelihood of American success in the attack.
On a similar note, the UK sub is more deadly than it used to be in AH. It can attack ACs and/or trans without fear of counter attack, limit fleet movement or do convoy raids.

If one considers that the original setup was generated with a certain understanding of how units would work, what damage they can cause and vulnerability, then I think the UK and US starting subs are making the allies significantly stronger in the Pacific.

Under AH rules, the US sub cannot submerge given the presence of an attacking DD, and even if the DD is not brought in, provided Japan gets 3 hits, it will be killed. And should the UK sub venture out alone, it's vulnerable to being picked off by air.

in AARe, these subs are much harder to kill, and are significantly deadlier on the offense for the reasons noted. (Granted, Haw AC defends weaker, but the same holds for Japan's AC should the US counter-attack on US1).

My point relates to the discussion (much of it led by Pagan) on Japan's position in AARe: this is something else that causes trouble for Japan. I am wondering if anyone has noticed this, and if anyone else thinks this is something that ought to be addressed.

I agree with you completely Stephen, a good Allies player can use the subs in the Pacific to clog Japanese movement in the early rounds. I've noticed this as well Stephen, so don't worry you're not the only one! ;)

I don't think this is as big as a problem now that changes have been made to Non-aggression and DDay.

Japan and Germany may need to work together alittle more, but that's all.

I would be more interested in limiting the Inf-only NA's though.
