Any great ideas for what to do with the 3 German Infantry that start the game in Norway, assuming the russians gut the defenses for, say, an attack on Western Russia?

Should they march into Leningrad and let the Americans land uncontested in Norway, probably to build a center there? Should they hold their ground and die in the fjiords?

Well, if you're serious about it, you could reinforce using the transport in the Baltic to bring over more inf/armor.

It pretty much depends on your blood. I'm from Norway, so when I play the Axis, I defend Norway to the last man. Reinforce a tank and infantry by the tranny and one more fighter, strafe russian units in Karelia, and the Allies will propably move their shuck-shuck to North Africa.

When I play the Allies, I always liberate Norway on T2, with the "Three pronged joined allied crush punsch", as they call it.

As the Allies, I always take Norway T1, with England, and use that as the push point to save Russia. As Germany, I evacuate; those units would be destroyed otherwise, and alive they can be used for a counterattack, or to some better purpose. But it depends on your style, as Adlertag said.

You ALWAYS take Norway T1, with England only, for sure.
Let me explain you why. Your game experience is with other american college dudes only, guys who dont care for Norway, guys who use the Norwegian Army Group to attack Karelia, or retreat to Germany (the ***** style).

German T1 occured before UK T1 last time I checked, yes ?
Now you play against me, a real man.(and member of the dirty dozen)

On G1 I pull the "Splash Royal Navy" move, and land all surviving fighters in Norway, plus reinforce with one tank and an infantry by tranny. Plus move a naval unit in each sea-zone adjacent to Norway. Karelia is strafed by all inf. and tanks in reach, to prevent Boris from doing something stupid.
I am also assuring you face to face that Festnung Norwegen will be defendet to last man.

With these conditions, are you still going for the "Liberate Norway" T1 ?
Are your strategy actually plausible ?
You do realize you only had two trannies (convoy max. 4 land units) supported by one Battleship (Max. one shore bombard) in the first place.

I think your strategy will HURT you.
And ReHurt you again, next time, bringing more hurt into game.

I moderately defend Norway with Germany. It depends on if I am holding Karalia strongly as well.

I try to normally take Norway with the Americans. It usually takes a few more turns, but I like them having the option of building a factory there if stategy so allows.

Adlertag: obviously, if the German player reinforces Norway heavily, I don't attack. On the other hand, every unit he moves to protect Norway detracts from the number of units he can effectively bring to bear against Russia (he'd have to empty the units from Norway, allowing me to take it, or leave units behind to protect, therefore hurting his offensive). Every unit he ships to protect Norway is stuck in a useless position, unless you're going to kill England first. Just to test this, though, once I have some more free time I'd love to play you; I'll give you a bid of around 8 (that's what I usually bid, as part of my African strategy) :D.

Spreading German sea units around Norway in a vain effort to defend it is crazy. They're fodder for the Brits. Why lose 16-24 IPCs of ships to "defend" a 3 IPC area?

Why defend it at all? If the UK moves its fleet over, sink it and counterattack to kill the stinking ground units. UK now has to build a whole new fleet and the units to put on it.
