I have got the original program. I have got a problem concerning the recognition of the cd. I have installed the game without problems. The game starts fine, but asks for the Cd. This is shown with a picture of a G.I. and reads "Cdrom not present". I have patched the game with v.1.01, used "cd-bremse, virtual drives, moslo, bootdisks without any luck. It seems to be general problem with any new cd drives. My mother has an old 233 mhz pc with a 8x drive. The program runs smoothly on her computer. I would really like to play the game, but don't know how. I would like to learn if anybody has knowledge of a No-cd patch for the game. I don't see this as illegal. The site "Home of Underdogs" has a free download of the game. If I could, I would write a NO cd patch myself. However I don't know how ?

Please help

Considering that you bought the CD, don't feel bad if you need to download the no-CD version from Underdogs in order to play the game. I'd say you're in compliance with the letter of the copyright law.

The problem may be the speed of your newer CD drives. I don't know this for a fact, but I have heard before that some older games that were written for 2x, 4x, and 8x drives have serious problems with fast CD drives.

Hi,

did you solved your problem, because I have the same now. Underdogs version is not a 'nocd' version, so it does not help, and the game did not even displays the splash screens and crashes with a "Resource Open 1 Failed" message.
Even with dosbox, that runs almost all my dos games, it does not work with my CD version. I am surprised, because I have Stalingrad CDRom version and it works with dosbox, just copying the cdrom content in a directory and "mounting" this directory as a cdrom (works too mounting the real drive, but this way I do not need the CD). But with America Invades, no way :(

Hi again,

I was about to give up and sell the game on ebay when I saw on the gamebox that the cd-rom was MAC/PC. I searched the web for Mac emulation and I followed the steps on the-underdogs site to setup a MAc emulation software called Basilisk.
Well, a little bit tedious, but here I am, I am right now playing "America Invades" inside Basilisk, and this time it SEEs the Cd-rom !!! :D . Graphics seems exactly the same as those on PC (at least they are the same than those on the box rear).

Well, here are the steps I used. As I use only Basilisk to play and don't know all uses of this sowtware, I may have missed something, but this works for me. Also I tried to add Win 95/98 comments where I know that there are some issues or differences, however I tested only on Windows XP.

1- Download Basilisk II here :

http://www.thierryb.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=5&Itemid=43&lang=en

2- unzip in c:\basiliskII

3- Download a Mac rom file and system disk here :

http://www.the-underdogs.org/tools/macstart.zip

4- Unzip in c:\basiliskII (same as step 2)

5- Open the directory where you just saved all of your Basilisk II files and navigate to the CD-ROM Drivers folder.

6- Inside this folder, you will find two more folders:
one for Windows 9x (labeled 9x) and one for Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 (labeled NT4 and Win2k).

7- If you’re using Windows 95, 98, or Me, copy the CDENABLE.vxd file to your c:\windows\system folder.

8- If you’re using Windows XP, copy the cdenable.sys file to your
c:\Windows\System32\drivers folder.

9- Run the file c:\basiliskII\BasiliskIIGUI.exe

10- You may have a warning about WNASPI32.DLL missing file. Close the message window.

11- Select "Disk" tab

12- Click "Create"

13- in "Path" setting, erase "C:\basiliskII\New.HFV" and type "games.HFV"

14- in "size", type 20

15- Clik OK

16- In "Installed disks" (left pane) you should have 3 items. Move the first two items to the right pane (with >> ) so that only "games.HFV" remains.

17- In the right pane, click the item "System 7.5.5.dsk" and move it to the left pane.

18- Select "System 7.5.5.dsk" in the left pane and click the "Up" so that it comes to the first place.

19- Select "Memory" tab.

20- enter 48 for size (instead of 128)

21- select "Screen" tab.

22- select "Direct X (full screen)"

23- Select "My Computer" tab

24- Check "Enable External File System"

25- Check at least one of your Hard drive letter

26- select "CD" tab

27- check "enable CD.."

28- In the right pane, you should see all your available CD-rom drives. Move the drive you want to be available for Basilisk to the "installed" left pane

29- check "Use Windows 95/98 real mode CD drivers" if you are having problems getting CDs to work correctly under Basilisk II with W98.

30- insert your "America invades" CD in your cd-rom drive.

31- Now you are ready to run BaliliskII. If you have to run "BasiliskIIGUI.exe"
to change other settings just like what we done above, then you can run Basilisk with the "Run" button. Thereafter you can just click "BasiliskII.exe"

32- Once your emulated Macintosh finishes booting, you should see a requester saying that the Macintosh is unable to read the new file disk that we just created (step 12), and needs to format it.

33- Type a name in the Name box (ie. "GAMES") and click Initialize, then click "Continue"

34-You should see an icon names "INVADE_1" on your desktop

Now it'up to you to install the game, just follow MAC installation instructions from the manual, just use the disk "GAMES" as the target. I hope I did not make a mistake.

I just joined the forum with a question about the cd rom version (only) of D Day America Invades. I bought the game when it first came out and also had problems with the message that the game could not find the cd rom. Then I found the following quote in a Strategy Plus magazine article by Scot Udell:

"..there is a bug that causes the program to not detect the CD if the 'LASTDRIVE=' line in your config.sys references the same drive letter as your CD. [Simply increment the letter in the LASTDRIVE statement to rectify this problem. - ed]"

I did do that and was able to run the game. But now...with a new computer... and XP I'm back to the problem.

I can't find where DosBox or Windows XP has a LASTDRIVE statement to edit. I put a LASTDRIVE statement into the mount statement in DosBox but it doesn't help. Does anyone have any ideas since my game is still searching for the CD and the last resort for me would have to be the mac solution described earlier?

Hi,

I already tried to put the lastdrive manually within DosBox, without success. Your last chance is Basilisk !

In the forum the dosbox other user help me to me for a solution and I can run the game now:

http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=11767

I wait it help other fans Dday.

But, the problem with setup for the sound I can´t resolve. In the instructions of game say put c:\invade\setup for to configure the sound and screen.

But in the files of cd I don´t see the file: setup and I run the game but without sound with dosbox. The cd is original.
Somebody can run the setup in this game for the sound?

Thanks for the help. Mine also works now once I downloaded a hex editor and edited the exe file.

By the way, to configure the sound type the exe file Invade with the switch /setup like this for example:
C:\Invade\Invade /setup

Hope that solves the sound setup problem.
