Titan - Badlands

Hi.

I have a question regarding the Badlands variant published in the General magazine. In the fort battleland there is a grey shaded hexagon adjacent to the tree and hill hexes in the centre. The grey hex in question seems to indicate elevation, but has no slopes around its edges. Does anybody know what was intended by this unusually marked hexagon?

A hill doesn't seem to make sense as the fort would have to be a different shade (to be one level higher). We usually play with the grey hex as simply open but I guess you could argue that it should be a walled hex too.
