1. Suppose that faction A captures a knights castle. Later, that knight joins faction A. I have always played that knight gets the "deed" to his castle back, and so when he dies the castle leaves the faction. However, I can find nothing supporting this in the rules. Am I just not finding it in the rulebook, or have a been a victim of some rule-hallucination?

2. The rules say that when a faction takes a town, the card (if any) goes to the faction as a whole. Can towns be assigned to the faction:
a. when they are drawn?
b. when they are captured from an enemy noble?
c. if they are controlled by a friendly noble?
d. if they do not have an associated card?

1. I think you're right.

2. a. no
b. yes, or to one of the nobles that was at the battle.
c. no
d. If there's no associated card then it isn't an issue because they don't have votes in Commons.

Yes they do: Plymouth and Oxford are not on cards (well, they are, but you cand transfer the Chancellor of Cornwall) but still have commons votes. Also, it matters in that if a TCC is tied to a noble it may be lost if the noble dies, but not so if it attached to the faction.

Wow, is this a test or something?

Many times with these older games, you have to just stop, suck it up, and find the answer in the rules. I was sure that there are some open towns that have no commons votes though...

Most of these I can't find the answers to! Arg!

1. lack of rule. When you conquer a castle or town by siege, the castle or town is assigned to the faction, not to the noble... thus, if the noble join the faction, his castle is still a faction property. But you can decide as you like.

2 if the faction A capture by siege a town, the card (if available) goes to the faction but it is just for memory (rule Transfer, 3). When you capture a enemy noble, all the cards (except in the case of Office, Title or - with optional rules - Bishop) are transferred to the winner nobles. then you can transferred again the cards to other nobles (same of different faction, providing that they are in same square. Thus:

a. No
b. No
c. No
d. must assigned to faction, because are conquered

The vote is not important. A conquered town give only Commons vote, and commons vote are always computed for parliament (only Lords vote needs the owner noble present) as stated in Optional Parliament 1.

Well, it is important in the sense that if I assign a town to a noble and he later killed, I lose those three votes, whereas if I assign it to the faction, the only way I can lose the votes is if it is taken from me. But I see what you are saying.

That's right... the so called "faction town" can be lost only by enemy siege...
