Why is it that at Gencon, where the great unveiling of the mini game will take place, is it seperate from where the OTHER A&A events will be?? Why are the events not tied in somehow, and an attempt made to energize your A&A base?

I have always strongly supported A&A products. A&A players should be a key demographic and fans that should be caterd to at Gencon. If anyone will provide favorable reviews and pub, wouldn't that be already exisiting customers and consumers of A&A??

So why the hate??

Apparently in with the D&D/Warhammer section.

I guess the question is who will buy more - minis fans or A&A fans (I suppose there are some fans of both)?

The next question is, which fan group is already accustomed to doing out tons of cash for expanding games?

I think the answers start to reveal the decision.

Note - this is purely educated speculation.

Xeno/pacific/europe doesnt count??

To make no effort to jointly produce some sort of tie-in with the boardgame is still wrong. I still say A&A players are a market for this game, as well as mini gamers.

I'd like to venture a stab at this one. At Gen Con games are arranged pretty far in advance. So there may have not been time to do arrange this. Also I'm pretty sure there are seperate areas for boardgaming and miniatures. This is done simply as a way for peter and the gen con group to orgainize the whole thing.

Aren't the rooms board games and miniatures games. Since it is a miniatures game who would look for it in the board game room?

GenCon staff want people to be able to find what they're looking for after all.

Gencon is where tournaments are played. The Axis and Allies tournaments will be in one section.

If you come to Gencon on Saturday to play in the Mega tournament event, you will be , if you advance, stuck in that room for a long time. You wont have time to go "searching" for wherever the mini's are.

But if you were playing A&A, you'd likely have time to, and thus would, drop by the A&A mini's table, if it was right next door to all the other A&A games.

In this case, the A&A tie-in is more important that the mini's tie in. Heck, this thread in this forum is under the A&A section, not a "mini" section.

I have never been to GenCon but I would guess that Axis & Allies boardgame is a very minor sideshow compared to all the other games.
Sorry guys, but am I right?

A company like Avalon Hill or especially WoTC are in business to sell games. It would be nice if they would cater to all groups of game players, but in reality they will position their products in the most financially lucrative places. In this case they will generate much more intrest with the other miniatures games.

The whole miniatures games are very big sellers which is why WoTC is getting into this in the first place. I was recently at a local convention and there were a handful of boardgames being played and about 90% of the games were historical or fantasy miniatures of all types.
It is just what is most popular right now.

Well I have to say that there are many many games at gen con but A&A is fairly popular. You can find pretty much whatever you are looking for a gen con be it role playing, boardgames, or miniatures.

AAM falls into the collectable minis genre. They want to keep all the Collectables in the same area (Star Wars Minis,D&D Minis) because most of the rules judges know all the collectable mini systems so it makes it easier to run the events.

Also this game should be labeled Squad Leader minis but Sqaud Leader is currently not supported and Axis and Allies has a much bigger following and will probobly generate more sales.

GenCon attracts about 25,000 people, a good 200 of which do the A&A games; Pacific, Europe, 2nd Edition, Revised, and D-Day. Many of the 25K attendees don't play games, just go to vendors and wander. The A&A events, like the Puffing Billy events, attract a solid core of people. Star Wars Minis, D&D Minis, etc probably attract similar numbers. Then there's the 40K fanatics. They should be walled off from the normal people :)

I guess it had to do the way things were setup at gencon. I agree with you squirecam, that this game should appeal to A&A Fans. But because of the nature of the game, not really a Board Game per se, I guess it made more sense to put it in the Huge Miniature area, than the other Huge Board Game area. Also, if you think about it, in either area, you wont be able to buy the products; you will need to go to the Exhibit Main Hall to purchase them, because like you said, gamers in events, will be concentrated on the events at the Mini and Board Game Halls. Once they are done, if they do have the time to wonder around, then they will be able see these products and other A&A products in the Main Exhibit Hall. And if you were there, and you walked close to the WotC booth, the A&A Mini section was noticeable. So I don’t think WotC is really neglecting the current A&A Fans, I guess it just made sense at the time to have the A&A Minis stuff where all other the WotC Minis products were played, and that also helped out in not taking space from the board game hall, which was used mostly for actual Board Games.

Just my 2 cents.
