I have to ask because it seems alot of posts around here have been downers latley. Something good must keep you comming back to these boards? Please lift my spirits and post it here. What is good about AH? What is good about the people or the boards here?

There is something good about the boards or you wouldn't come back right? Tell us what we are doing right?

the people are funny and the posts are offtopic, and the moderaters are cool  ;) :D

actually, sorry for the negativaty, but i am a pessimiste (probably spelt that wrong), no matter how cool a game MMA is, ill still be mad about the pirate game.

but still, this is my fav board/game company :)

I think about 75% of the current negativity is with the A&A miniatures. And that's a whole lot of crying about how the game will not appeal to existing minis fans. Take out all that, and you're at about the normal level.

The important thing to remember is that this is a site devoted to GAMES. Games = fun, and having fun is what attracted me to the site.

While I appreciate the old traditional AH games, I am open and excited to try the new ones also. There may be a few that are built on a theme that does not attract me. I'll pass on those, but I will NOT gripe and moan about them having been made and sold. Why? Because they are games!!!! Games are fun. I will simply not buy them if they don't appeal to me.

I keep coming back because this is a site concerning fun. I have fun while I'm here, whether as a member or Moderator.

These boards are a result of contributions from great members from across the world who come here to do one thing..........Have Fun!!!!!!

That's why I keep coming back. :)

I came cuz i used to play AH games. I haven't for about a year, but it's still fun coming here for the rec room. Also, this forum is very small. It's nice actually knowing who everyone is.

Hm, well maybe if you replaced that locked envelope icon with, say, a forcefield, maybe there would be less negativity, hm?

Don't worry about negativity, it's all the fault of the Grognards. In fact, grognard was the old French word wich meant " a person who mumble".
It was used to define the old napoleonic veterans because it was impossible to satisfy them. IGNORE the Grognards, because it's just impossible to make them happy.

I'm not sure exactly what negativity you refer to, but here are a couple of possibilities:

1) New games aren't coming out fast enough. My response - they never do, at least not enough to satisfy everyone. AH's production schedule has gone up and down, but is definitely improved over 5 years ago when things seemed to be at a standstill.

2) Components in new games aren't up to the quality standards expected. My response - unfortunately, costs continue to go up, and there's a limit to how much people will pay for a game. Before everyone jumps on me to point out titles from L2 and GMT that are in the $100 and up range, I'm aware of them. I just think the market is pretty small for that price point, and those games rely on mail order to a much larger degree than AH does. Faced with a somewhat fixed price that can be charged and rising costs for the same quality, we can expect to see a few corners cut.

Production errors are another story, and it would be nice to see some improvement here. While they've been with us since games first started to be produced, they're always annoying. When a game doesn't appear to come with enough pieces (A&A Pacific) or has what appears to be an obvious error (Betrayal at House on the Hill), people are going to complain.

3) The grognards aren't happy with the new games. My response - well, I'm kind of in their camp. I don't begrudge anyone A&A (or any of the other new titles). People who enjoy these games shouldn't have to feel like members of a lower class because they do. I think the problem stems from the fact that the AH name stood for a certain type of game for over 40 years, and that has now changed. When the takeover was announced, it wasn't made clear that the direction of the company was changing as well. Consequently, some of the "old guard" feel a little "cheated" in a sense... "their" company has changed without their input. You're not going to be able to do much about that, but I think a lot of those folks have left this site anyway. You do have to remember that there are thousands of those games out there still, and when someone finds a Kingmaker or Russian Campaign they naturally assume that the AH website has a solid connection with these titles.

The Internet is a great medium for communication, but sometimes people come off more harshly than they would in person. I don't think the majority of posters are really negative about AH - more like the frustration you sometimes feel with a family member that won't behave quite the way you want him to. Just keep paying attention to the message behind the feedback and you'll do fine.

Conan, what is good in AH?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women... :D
