Okay lets hear the guesses on what the next mini preview will be. :D

I think that it will be an American unit. We have had an Italian, British, Russian, and German pieces so far.
If it is an American unit, it will probably be something minor or common since the previous previews were off either common vehicles like the T-34 or minor like the British recon. Of course I use the word common not in reference to the availability in the booster packs but in the fact that they were common equipment in the war.
So I'm thinking maybe either a Sherman tank, a half-track, or hopefully an infantry unit.
I don't think we will see a Tiger or IS-2 or anything like that yet. Maybe once the real weekly previews get rolling.

I'm already changing my mind...

Since everything so far has been 40' and 41' then we probably won't see much of any US forces yet. So I'm thinking that maybe we'll see an anti-tank gun or an infantry. Possibly British.
Yeah, thats it... thats the ticket... ;)

I'm hoping for an infantry unit; even better, two infantry units.

Hmmm. Fun to speculate.

However, in addition to the mini previews posted here:
Japanese Type 95 HA-GO,
British Humber Armored Car, (w/card)
Italian M13/40 Tank (w/card)
Russian T-34 Tank (w/card)
German Sig 33 SP Arty (w/card)

There have also been shots of a British Crusader tank and US M-18 Tank Destroyer used in one review, and a shot of that same US M-18 Tank, plus a US infantryman standing nearby in an ad in Scrye magazine.

But we haven't seen an "official" US unit and card here on the site. So my vote is that the next will be US. For some reason, I'm thinking it won't be the M-18 (since it's been leaked twice already). But I do think it will be a vehicle, so I'm going to place my bet on the US M3 Standard Halftrack.

I'd like to see some infantry, any nationality. Just to confirm for good what they will look like.

I'm going to say A Japanese Infantry unit.

Infantry would be nice. Or how about a sneak peak at the maps?

SeattleGamer

Goblin . . . since the starter set is limited to German, Brit, US and Soviet, I'd be surprised if they gave us another glimpse of anything Japanese.

With their first expansion set to release December 7 . . . I'm guessing the build-up of sneak peeks to THAT expansion will include the pacific theater.

GoblinSlayer

yeah but they did show the Italian tank

Well, I've read that the Italians are (and are not) in the initial starter set, so who knows for sure. But the Japanese are definately not.

But I would like to see an official infantry of some sort, and it's card.

In the August Scrye they had 3 pics on one of the pages. Grant, Churchhill and a Bazooka squad.

I'll try to get my hands on a Scrye and get it scanned, but no guarantees for today.

as soon as I get the magazine in the mail I'll scan it.
Hey NewtonCain did Scrye give any stats or anything to?

I'm really not liking that AH releases info exclusively to certain publications.

One would think that by visiting the official website for a particular game, you would have all the latest and greatest info. They must have made a deal with Scrye to give them content that AH itself would NOT post.

Does the bazooka team have multiple figures?

That might be a clever ploy by AH to get some wider advertising, especially to those who don't have web access, and Scrye to maybe "sell" their magazine?

No, just 3 picks.
As for the Bazooka team, it had 1 figure.

I saw the scrye at the FLGS (price guide for trades), the picks were maybe 10 pages in along w/ some DDMs from the upcomming AF set.

Yeah, Thanks for the Tanks! :D . It's odd that the infantry APPEAR to be more detailed than the vehicles so far...

SeattleGamer
06-29-2005, 04:58 AM
Yes, that is odd. Perhaps the thought is that a base coat for a tank and picking out the treads is sufficient (two colors), whereas infantry have uniforms, boots and belts and equipment, weapons and faces/hands so they get more colors (at least four). Makes them look better.

Thanks as well Goblin.

The difference in paint quality between units at this point seems to be amazing, so what do you all think: Are they as-is, with a focus on infantry (the Bazooka unit looks fantastic) or is Avalon Hill going to blow us away with tanks of the same quality a week before the release?

SeattleGamer

I was wondering if perhaps the vehicles we've seen were early stage test cases. The Humber actually looked devoid of any variations in color, so I was wondering if that was simply the base color of the plastic itself.

Some of the others, however, do appear to be base painted, plus a drybrushing of a lighter color to bring out the highlights, and possibly have the tracks a different color as well. The crusader looked pretty good to me.

Let's hope that we're seeing product from a variety of "stages". You know, someone comes into the office and says "It's time for another sneak peak, what have you got?" And they get "Well, I have a Humber from test run 7, will that do?" And that's the next thing we see.

Then the next week, the answer is "You're in luck, I just got back the final Crusader proof. She's beautiful!". And that's what we see that week.

Cool! In that case, my guess for this week is Panzerfaust 30.

I'd love to see a commander, and what effect or ability he gives to soldiers under his command, but I bet that concept is saved until closer to GenCon.

Yeah I would love to see what one of the commanders do, we'll probably see a normal infantry piece before a commander though.

SeattleGamer

I'd rather see a regular infantry piece before seeing how commanders affect gameplay. Infantry "should" form the backbone of any force at this scale, with some artillery second, while vehicles should be few and far between, and commanders possibly one per side (if even fielded).

So bring on the ground-pounders AH!

In complete agreement, but we have little to go on at this point. The AH staff etc.. have not said much or spoken to the customers on this board about this question and a lot of other questions.
