Thanks for putting this together. It provides a good look at the units and allows for a comparison of them.

Good Work!

Good stuff guys, thanks.

Orpheus, the M4A1 card is shown in the Quick Start pdf: Speed 4, Defense 5/4. There appear to be no special abilities but I can't be certain.

Here's the missing unit types; I don't have them in my spreadsheet as I don't have any more info then their type.

2 missing Russians: One commander, one soldier

2 missing English: One commander, two soldiers (one of which is a rifleman)

4 missing Germans: Three soldiers (probably two of which are commanders), one machine gun crew that's in the starter (an MG42?)

3 missing Japanese: One commander, one soldier, one artillery / anti-tak gun.

There's some scetches at Quickstart -guide; Several officers and some others. There's a british unit that looks like paratroopers. There's also an officer that I don't recognize, and a japanese officer, and a scetch from Red Devil Captain too.

Someone mentioned russian officer to be Russian Komissaar or something similar...

A couple of things I noticed that you may or may not want to add to your list:

The 6 Pounder antitank gun is probably an S/A (Soldier - artillery).
The Sd Kfz 222 is probably a V/AC instead of V/T.
The Panther's second special ability is Superior Armor 2 (for completeness).
The Jagdpanther is probably 57 points.

orpheus21

57 points for the Jagdpanther would put it as the most expensive unit in the game from what I've seen so far. Thanks for the help.

Just found this site on A&AM - some good stuff here. I had been posting on the MW Realms site so its nice to find a dedicated set of threads.

First up, my local gamestore in the UK will be taking A&AM so I'm in for a case (bribery treats for my wife to use on our 2 sons while I'm away in Iraq for 4 months!). I just wish we had the same prices a you guys in the States - I'll expect to pay in £ Sterling what you pay in USD.

The list of stuff for the first release looks good - I was a little worried that they'd try and cover every base in one go and water down the overall effect.

I'd like to see the Bren Carrier and the Stug III appear in the next release. As great a machine as the Jadgpanther is, the numbers used on the front line were pretty small. For the purpose of gameplay - I'm not too sure if the German 88mm gun would be too welcome!!

Although we don't know all of the abilities, there are some that are out that don't add up. The PzII gets "excellent suspension" but the T34 doesn't. The Italian M13/40 is "highly flammable" but the M4a1 Sherman isn't. I know the special abilities are there to add colour to a profile but some of the allocation seems a bit odd.

Roll on Friday and the next sneak peek!!

Good to hear you'll be able to get the game in the UK. With the strength of the Pound I'm wondering if eBay wouldn't be a good option for you. I too would like to see the StuG in the next set, along with a Pz III, and more Soviet infantry and ATGs.

So far the only special that bugs me is the Strike and Fade for the Lee. I think it was a slow tank historically.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the story behind this figure? What is the RDC?

Red Devils is the nickname of elements of the 82nd airborne (http://www.ww2-airborne.us/division/82_overview.html).

Specifically, I believe it's the 508th (http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/508/508.html) Parachute Infantry Regiment, but I've also seen the 504th (http://www.ww2-airborne.us/units/504/504.html) with this nickname, though they are also called Devils in Baggy Pants.

Looking at a magazine today called, IIRC, "World War II," I noticed a full page ad for Axis and Allies minis. It was in the first couple of pages at the front. There were four minis shown and named: the PzKfw IV and Sherman, the Vickers machine gun (all known already), and an SS Panzergrenadier. I don't see the latter in the list at the head of this thread. Did I simply miss it, or is this a new piece? It was a single figure, standing straight with rifle in firing position.

Steve F.

I believe it's one of the "missing" figures from the list. When the pre-release photos came out, several people became detectives and scrutinized them very closely. Everything that could be discerned was, and the very sweet list of details at the start of this thread was born.

But if you check it closely, you will see a number of minis that we don't yet know the names or stats for, but we DO know they are infantry bases (from the photos). I keep checking the downloads section, hoping for a collector's checklist (so that we could at least get the missing names and card numbers, but so far . . . nada!

I believe it's one of the "missing" figures from the list. When the pre-release photos came out, several people became detectives and scrutinized them very closely. Everything that could be discerned was, and the very sweet list of details at the start of this thread was born.

I've been through the lists at the head of the thread but didn't see a likely spot for the SS-Panzergrenadier, hence my post. The numbered list, post three in this thread (IIRC), seemed to have all the German slots filled but nothing that looked like it might have been mistaken for this piece. I think I'll check out the links for the previews that started this party and see if I can identify it from the various photos. It's even possible, I imagine, that it's not even a figure from the first set. With the second set scheduled for a December release, the next group has probably already entered preliminary casting.

But if you check it closely, you will see a number of minis that we don't yet know the names or stats for, but we DO know they are infantry bases (from the photos). I keep checking the downloads section, hoping for a collector's checklist (so that we could at least get the missing names and card numbers, but so far . . . nada!

This is a great passion on the DDM lists. Long and contradictory threads whose sole claimed purpose is identifying the checklist of the upcoming set. I haven't yet seen WotC release lists for the sets prior to their actual release, or at least pre-release for a specific gaming convention such as Gencon. But then, the 'Opening Salvo' articles we've seen already include far more detail than the teasers for DDM. Maybe the Avalon Hill division will take a different approach. I hope so.

Vulturedoodle,

Somewhere on this forum on June 6th, Rich Baker mentioned that we would see an "SS rifleman" in the base set, so the magazine ad you saw seems to confirm this (the SS Panzer Grenadier).

Looking at one of the preview shots (the one that shows nearly all the units) on http://www.gamefest.com/news/feature_detail/2798_0_3_0_C/ I believe the SS Panzer Grenadier to be the one in the fourth row, fourth column between the two Japanese soldier units.

Could be. The figure isn't visible, but the name on the stat card could definitely be SS-Panzergrenadier. The photo labelled "An axis soldier" is focused on a Japanese soldier, but it's possible the out-of-focus figure to the right is the one. Hard for me to tell.

SS-Panzergrenadier would fit into the list alphabetically at spot #39, which I previously had as German Commander. Looking at the right side of this photo (http://www.gamefest.com/_files/gamewire/specialfeatures/origins2005/day3/large/IMG_1796.jpg) again, it's also obvious that the unidentified German soldier does not have the commander subtype. The unit name also does seem to begin with SS-???, so I think you're right.

I've updated the #3 (http://boards.avalonhill.com/showthread.php?t=5086&page=1#post57411) post.

Good catch and thanks for the help,

Marat

Interesting that the commander is from the 1/504 for the US. It implies that future commanders will be drawn from other units rather than being generic commanders, al la ASL.

I've updated the tiger 1 stats, what a monster. It's good that a short game like A&A minis won't take into account the difficulty of having to get 100 of these machines like the tiger 1 to a front in time for a important battle etc.

I'm going to have to list all the special abilities at the bottom because I keep having to look back at the cards to remember what it does.

I've updated all the missing units names etc from the Gallery. There were a few units that were out of order like the JagDpanther, it was listed as 28 instead of 26. Now we wait for the rest of the stats from Gencon.
