I have heard a couple of your favorite books. Now I would like to hear some of your favorite war Movies. It does not have to be World War II theme but sence this is a game on WWII I thought I would just put my favorite WWII movies. I liked the movie Shinders List ( don't know if that is spelled right ) I also liked Tora Tora Tora and Saving Private Ryan, last but not least is a movie I just saw last week I belive it was called the end of all wars it is about a japanese prison camp. There are other movies that I enjoyed like the thin red line and wind talkers and enemy at the gates but like every thing it was Hollywoodafied if you can under stand that, but I never liked Pearl Harbor  some other films that I enjoyed that are not WWII related would be Glory and we were soldiers was good too. Oh yea The Longest Day was a great movie as well how could I forget that :o

Kelly's Heroes, a true to life saga with Clint Eastwood. :)
Father Goose and Operation Petticoat are also classics.

Tora Tora Tora and Midway were great. A Bridge Too Far and The Longest Day were good movies. 12 O'clock High is another classic. I'll always be fond of To Hell and Back, with Audey Murphy, who plays himself. One can't forget Patton. I always liked Up Periscope as a kid.

There was a really long thread on this awhile back where DocD berrated me for enjoying Gettysburg and Gods and Generals. I was declared insane, but not crazy. Lots of laughs..... :D

The TV miniseries "Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance" (Parts 1 and 2) are well worth watching. They show the whole of World War II from many perspectives and are full of the real human feeling of the conflict. You've got to be ready for some rather far-fetched coincidences to make the story workable, and there's some fudging about equipment and weapons that you'll probably pick up on, but the series has "its heart in the right place" and tries very hard to get things right. You can probably get these on DVD from your local library. Just make sure to watch them in order! For a made-for-TV film of the late 1980s and early 1990s, this really does well. The books by Herman Wouk on which the series were based are also very good, and are easily available.
The film "Sink the Bismarck!" is superb, and the book that inspired it ("The Last Nine Days of the Bismarck" by C. S. Forester) has what may be my favorite description of any sort of warfare, ever. In the battle between the Bismarck and the Prince of Wales and Hood, you are there with both crews and you feel for both sides as the battle unfolds.
On the other hand, I have no patience with "Allied commandos who kill the entire German or Japanese army" sort of movies.

I enjoyed Gettysburg but Gods and Generals was just absolute crap. It was one of the most innacurate civil war movies I have ever seen! they showed a unit of cavalry charging dug in infantry at manassas! (first bull run) Calvary never charges infantry in formation! to do this would cause massive casualties to an extremely vital elemnt of the army!

I have to agree that Gods and Generals was not a very good movie but some one reminded me of the mini series Band of Brothers that was kind of good there was some people in it that I did not want to see in it but it was good overall in my opinion.

LOL I think that was StarWarsafied. :) When I first heard about it, I thought Affleck/Hartnett were going to play Lts. Welsh and Taylor. But Bay/Wallace decided to go hollywood instead of History.

Some good movies I haven't seen listed: When Trumpets Fade, Hitler: The Last Ten Days and Cross of Iron are some unHollywoodafied movies.
