YES ... where are the results?
I'm not sure but I think Yoper may still be at WBC. The A&A tourney was to wrap up on Thursday 8/4; but the event runs through the weekend.

And for those scratching your head, Squirecam dethroned the two time champ at the WBC for the new Championship crown.
CONGRATULATIONS!

The WBC, run by Yoper, was a swiss pool tournament for day 1, with single elimination on day 2.
IIRC, the WBC only had 100 or so games to be played, as opposed to GCI or Origins. So alot of the games were games which were OOP.
We had four pools, so twice the number of the GCI masters tournament. Only the winner of the pool play advanced to day 2.
All but one of my games were played as Allies. That wasn't by any plan, just the way the bids determinbed the sides.
Yoper's system has 24 VT, 12 for each side. At the end of the `time limit, which was 4:30 compared to 3:45, you total the VT and if you have 13, you win. If its 12-12, then IPC come into play.
Therefore, as allies I gave up africa, which only had Egypt as a VT and focused upon the VT territories. So in most of my games, I had already "lost" the IPC battle", but won on the VT.
Day 1 lasted for me till 2 a.m., at which point, when I returned to my hotel, no one was up and my key would not open up my room. Total disaster. I had to get to another hotel that was open, finally sleep for 2.5 - 3 hours, then go to my real hotel to get ready for day 2. So I was quite tired and made some mistakes in my championship game. This would have cost me the game, but as it turns out my opponent also made a mistake.
As Greg mentioned, I did beat the 2-time champ in the semi's, before winning that final game. The last round, I needed an inf-tank combo to retake Australia, defending with 1 inf (after a sea battle with my fighter on 1 transport blocking), and also needed to capture borneo with 2 infantry on 1 fighter (following a sea battle with 1 sub on a blocking transport).
All my pieces hit, the lands taken, and the WBC title belt now hangs across my shoulders. :)
I have suggested to Yoper a modification to his system, which I think he likes and may adopt. It will have 2 VT in Africa, making my method of winning much more difficult. But will make for a better game under his system.

Sub sinks trans
2 inf capturing a territory defended by 1 fighter.
fighter sinks trans
tank/inf defeats tank
Wow all four go Squirecam's way. That is about a 10% chance. Pretty exciting.
I read somewhere else that WBC has a lot of poor sportsmanship. What did you think?

I will get a detailed report up soon. I drove all day Sunday and the family and I are going camping Thursday through Sunday this week. It might have to wait until next week. I have not crunched the numbers yet and will want to do that before I give any full write up.
As for WBC and sportsmanship, the intense competition may lead to some instances of bad feelings, but the poor sports and cheaters are weeded out pretty quickly. I would rather have the focused events at the WBC than have the loosely run tourneys that are prevalent at most other conventions. Like at any event, there are always going to be exceptions to the rule- good and bad. My limited experience has shown that the WBC has a very high level of player and of sportsmanship. Other conventions just don't stack up to it.
Quality- GMs, games, organization (BPA), and gamers- over quantity any day for me!

As far as A&A goes, no one threw dice or anything like that. Could you be more specific as to what you saw?

Some folks over at BoardGameGeek said there was a lot of trash table talk going on. Also people teaming up at some of the Eurogames, like I'll help you win Princes of Florence if you help me win Puerto Rico. Euros are very susceptible to that kind of teaming up and side deals.

Yes, this happened. Only made me happier when I eventually won.

Didn't see this though.

OK, Squirecam bribed his way to 2nd at GenCon last year with Steeler fandom, how on Earth did you guys let him win at WBC? Have you no shame??? No moral scruples???
Congrats Squirecam! You were at WBC, and here I thought you were just ducking me to postpone your inevitable pbem loss to me.

The BGG "lot" have a bit of a thing against the competitive nature of the WBC. I do not go anywhere near the Eurogames, so I do not know what was going on down there.
I try to stick to the 2-player wargames so as to not have to get caught up in the stuff that goes on in the multi-player games. I did play a 4-player Shogun/Samurai Swords in which it became a two-on-two match. As usual, I was on the losing end.
The trash talking that Squirecam is refering to was my badgering him about the "crappy" pieces he chose to bring along for game play.
More likely it was the fact that his semifinal opponent rather confidently told the other finalist to make sure that he had his game set up and ready to go so that they could get the final started as soon as the semi was done.
The 'Cam turned it up a notch after hearing that! Not a good way to go about handling yourself in a tournament setting.

TJ,
You are 100% correct. We deserve a severe penalty.
After much thought and discussion between Greg and I, it has been determined that one metal board should be confiscated by our team. As team leader, I have decided that it should be your board. Please bring it to Gencon so Greg can take custody of it.

OK Guys, just two awesome Steeler fans taking it all in...I hear the WBC went well for Squire as well...I believe Yoper might still be confused?
Hey, not sure if we are permited to do this or not...? That is post personal pictures. I did NOT read the fine print on the proper etiquette on such...?
Boy, there were some major babes at camp...not like the behemoths in Cincinnati...
What does this have to do with AA, everything. When around quality players, whether football or AA, winning become contagious...one can learn a lot about disapline and gaming when it comes to a Championship caliber team!

Great pic!!! I'll print it and put it in the garden to scare the birds and little furry rodents from it. The Steelers logo alone should do the trick, or at least make them lose their appetites!! :)
Though I must confess that I started rooting for the Steelers as soon as Big Ben became QB. I was using him for my QB when playing Madden Football because he had great value for his salary.
