Maybe this has been mentioned before...
But it's quite subtle (and arguably not a big deal).
But I am just experimenting on my own, and and J1 I just moved the 4 things in SZ 37 to SZ 45, as well as Pearl with everything that can reach. (I'm assuming Britain didn't attack 37).
It seems to me to put USA in an all or-nothing situation, because all of it can reach SZ 55. USA might have to purchase 2 carriers, or else give up the pacific.
Again, not great, but nifty.

Don't you mean move the fleet from SZ 37 to SZ 46? On my map you can't reach SZ45 from SZ37. Good thought but I doubt it would keep the US out of the Pacific for long. It might encourage then to go KJF though. :D

I'm using the mapview program...on there, I'm referring to 37 to 45...east indies to solomon islands (and the 2 planes can help Pearl).
To repeat, I guess it's just that I hadn't tried it before...makes US spend all $42 on navy in Pacific. I can't say it's a great play, but I kind of like the fact that it completely forces the hand.

And then, if you feel lucky, on J-2 you can attack the western US sea zone with about a 9 on 9.
If you assume that the allies have a tiny advantage (which so far I do), a nice $120 on $120 sea battle is a good way to take a shot.

Sorry, apparently my Battlemap program has a mistake and two seazones are numbered 46.
Using the Japanese Imperial Navy to keep the US away is not a bad idea but make sure you use the Imperial Army to take China and get more IPCs, otherwise your string of victories will be empty.

Thanks for replying.
Yeah, I like the idea of entire Japanese navy threatening Western US sea zone on turn 1. I played it through a couple times.
If Japan loses ONLY a transport at pearl (with battleship absorbing 1 hit), then USA can spend ENTIRE $42 on navy (with 1 or 2 carriers) yet STILL have a chance of losing everything. I'd have to odds calculator-it, but I see Japan with 2 battleships remaining.
If all Japan loses is that 1 transport, if I were USA player I'd build no ships on turn 1 in pacific.
Yes, must take China as well and ignore India for a little while.

If Japan dominates Pearl on 1 then US may want to build the fighters for their navy first in order to use them against the Nippon Navy if they stay at Pearl. Parking a Japanese Navy off the coast of WUSA too early is just asking for trouble. You need to wait until you are at least equal to the US in IPCs before you start that. Until then keep the navy centrally located in the Pacific in order to defend it and keep the US on the defense.
Keep in mind though that Japan's only chance to win is to dominate the IPCs in Asia, then use those to rebuild a navy to take on the US.

Hmmmm......that's an interesting rd1 Japan turn. Some would say that it leaves a lot of the details open to interpretation. :D

Still, too aggressive an attack up front and you may find yourself with no navy too soon. I like the idea of pressing the fight, but be careful. You might buy yourself some time, maybe until USA5 or so, but by then you better have Asia under control and a second fleet ready to defend the homeland.

Yes,
but just remember what you do isnt valid in LHTR. Its great for OOB rules though.

Seems like it would be a good strategy if you can afford to ignore the British navy for a bit. Holding US off until round 5 would be GREAT for a 3:45 tournament game...

Another reason not to like LHTR. I have to figure out a different strategy.

Gentlemen,
Consider sea zone 54, and suddenly the US won't feel as if its shipyards are under that much of a threat.
Peace

E-gads you are correct. USA can put it all in Sea Zone 54.
Just a tiny little line on the map completely changes my original post here.
Darn-nation.
Still, I am wondering if USA should often forego the Pacific...I'll start another thread.

Using the Japanese Imperial Navy to keep the US away is not a bad idea but make sure you use the Imperial Army to take China, India and get more IPCs, otherwise your string of victories will be empty. As the US will out buy you.
This thought still applies regardless of which ruleset you are using.
