5pts for a 5 defense along with its other superior traits is huge! As if 5 defense wasnt bad enough for an Infantry the German commander behind it will remove any disruptions your lucky enough to get.
Most anti-infantry gets 8 dice max. The 4 hit average wont hurt SS.
Am I missing something?

He still dies to a flame thrower, just like everybody else.

Your missing that the commander effect only applies at the start of the movement phase.
Also, while 4 successes are the average for 8 dice you have a 36% chance of 5 success. If you fire multiple 3 point units at a single 5 point unit. you can get enough hits to kill it. And it will be eliminated before the commander has time to "heal" it.
Finally MG's & some AFV's can frequently get 6 successes which kills an SS-panzergrenadier just as dead as a cheaper unit.

XAos hit the nail on the head. It is not broken at all. Heck a M4A1 Sherman can clean then off the board.

These boys are on the money. They're not unbeatable. But they're certainly made a bit tougher than the norm - and that's perfectly fitting for who they are.

For a collectible game (which this is) some pieces have to be better (more efficient) than others, otherwise the game isn't healthy.

Bottom Line:
SS-Panzergrenadiers outfight standard infantry but are vulnerable to Machine Guns and AFVs.

Although the Panzergrenadier at 5 points is a bargain hunter's dream,...let's not pretend they are invincible. Difficult to kill as an infantry with 5 defense,...sure, you bet. But as has been said before, in the face of a pair of Vickers Liquid Cooled .30's,...
...well, let's just say this is no different than the discussions about the Crocodile. Single out the individually best unit in Armor and call it "broken", repeat with Infantry. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Even still, I would not really be happy facing an army with 8 x Panzergrenadiers and 2 x Panzer IV's.
<Insert Shudder>
In any situation, statistically there may be a "0" chance of success,...realistically,...when the defacation hits the oscillation,...probabilities seem to vary.

Good, maybe great, but no more broken than MG's in the game.

if people think everything is so "broken", wouldn't that make everything balanced?

The SS-PzGren. I believe to be the best normal infantry in the game. In defensive terrain combined with a SS-HStFü they can endure for a very long time. I Had two of those guy covering the objective three turns while being Fired at by two Vickers and a damged Stuart. Those are my heroes of the day! But they are far from invincible!
Their attack range is limited and they cannot harm a vehicle not in their hex. Allied tanks have good firepower vs. soldiers, so that there are couple of possibilitys of taking the PzGren out.
