Where are the indirect fire rules in this game? We have artillery[mortars and to a limited extent AT guns], but they can only attack line-of-sight? That makes no sense.

Currently, the game does not have "indirect fire" rules.

I would definitely like to see something for the mortars. Even at short range a mortar typically never needed to see its target. Personally I'd like to see any firing of a Mortar to be allowed as long as it or a commander has LOS to a target.

I was thinking of a possibility of a scout unit like bf1942.. I'm not sure what exactly was used in the war when it comes to this because artillery is not my field. But, as a possibility of adding indirect fire, I was thinking of making up some kind of rule along the lines of lying down any infantryman you have to illustrate a prone stance to make him look kinda scout..y. This scout can then use his binoculars to scout out up to a certain range longer than an infantryman's attack range to allow a certain piece of artillery to fire on that target within the scout's range. Za wha?

To possibly balance this, the infantryman selected as a scout take a hit in the attack value department (or just don't allow him to attack), but also the artillery could have less dice to roll (I mean, couldn't there be a possibility of human error in indirect fire, resulting in lower accuracy?). At any rate, I think indirect fire should also cause a longer range of fire (up to the scout's visible range) and also to ignore any cover in the way (if hills, trees, etc are blocking the LOS).

how does that sound?

Good Idea.
What's the use of mortars If they cannot fire indirecly? I mean did you ever saw a guy firing his mortar in his hand...?

Do you think he took the time to aim at the guy? (he did what he could but...) they should be allowed to fire over forest as long as a friendly reconaissance unit see the target (a jeep would be an excellent example since it move fast, was used as a reconnaissance unit and does not attack... (statisticly))

Simplicity leaves little room for error. Mortar teams and artillery need observers to get coordiantes. Unless they have an observer piece coming out, then the rules work for simplicity's sake.

So maybe something like this...?

Forward Observer: A unit with subtype Artillery may make an attack against a unit to which this unit has line of sight. Range is measured from the attacking unit.

Thoughts,...?

Sounds good, but only hits on a 6. Currently mortars only hit on 5-6s.
You'd have give it a longer range also, maybe out to 16. Boy that would make the SiG3 a desent unit.

I honestly think that is already in plan.
