View Full Version : Critical rules question! Major change to the game if this is true!

On page 13 of the manual it states, "A transport may not load or offload in a territory adjacent to a hostile sea zone." This statement is supported as fact in various other places in the manual.

If true, this changes the game an amazing amount.

UK cannot land on Norway from SZ 3, SZ 5, or SZ 6 if Germany has a navy in any of those three SZs.

Nor can UK reinforce Karelia if Germany has any units in SZ 5.

US cannot launch Operation Torch from SZ 12 if Germany has naval units in SZ 13.

And most insanely, Germany cannot invade Great Britain if UK has naval units in SZ 2, SZ 3, SZ 6, SZ 7, or SZ 8. :eek:

That was a nasty little misprint. It was supposed to state that you can't just sneak up and unload in a hotile seazone without dealing with enemy naval units.

If that's the case. Marik, I find it odd that the rulebook also specifically says that you may not load or unload from a seazone containing enemy naval units.

Why mention both if they are supposed to mean the same thing?

Mike ruled on this about two months ago. Marik is correct, the intention was the same as all previous editions, however the wording was poorly chosen.

It simply means you can't run a transport through a territory with enemy ships in order to assault the land space beyond. Hostile navel units in a different sea zone, on another coast, for instance, don't interfere with the landing. A navy in the Mediteranean sz13, for instance, doesn't prevent a transport from attacking Western Europe through sz6 or 7.
