You can not see down a hex spine if both hexes bordering the spine contain terrain that grants cover to both vehicles and infantry.
Hopefully this issue will get resolved by the design team :D .

I should hope you can't see down a Hex Spine.
(imagine seeing a Hex's nerves and such, ugh :0)
Since You stuck a smilie after your statement, I'm taking it as a joke.

Actually, what NewtonCain is referring to is a little 'side-debate' he and I have been discussing on and off since GenCon back in August.
You see, in most 'other' WWII miniatures, etc. games (e.g. ASL, Panzer Leader, etc.) you are determined not to have line of sight down the 'spine' of the hex for a distance greater than the first spine you encounter, and in some cases, not at all.
He's buggin' about it,...it doesn't bother me as much,...I see it as a simple game mechanic for a "simpler" WWII miniatures game. If I wanted to play ASL I would,...but I don't,...so there,... :p

This is how BattleCry has it - if the blocking terrain is only on one side of the line and the line is on the hex spine itself, then LOS is OK - but if blocking terrain is on BOTH sides of the line then NO LOS - it makes sense but it is not stated so in the rules.
This attachment shows a tank aimed directly at another tank that lies at the end of the hexspine with blocking terrain on either side.

Exactly how it should be, but is not stated that way in the rules. Infact the statement in the rules makes it sound like firing down a spine is always clear :( .

For the record,...I completely agree that you should not have line of sight in this case.

I concur. In fact, should someone try to argue in the middle of a game that s/he did have LoS down a hex spine flanked by two blocking terrain hexes, I would feel compelled to whack him/her on the head with my bag of dice.
