View Full Version : Can I supplement my armies with other similar minis?

Greetings. I'm considering diving into this game headfirst, in part because I already own a modest collection of miniature German tanks. Does Avalon hill offer downloadable stat cards so that I can 'unnoficially' fight the Easy 8 with my own toy Tiger tank? (I found a website that lists all the stats, so there's no need to dig up an external link for me.) If not, offering downloadable stat cards would seem like a very reasonable olive branch to those who are discouraged by opening x number of boosters without any 'uber' rare pulls.
Has anyone else supplemented their armies? If encouraging play with proxy units is a taboo topic, forgive me, and let me re-direct it: I have other minis, as well, which are not yet depicted in the game: Elephant tank, Strumtiger, etc. Has anyone extrapolated stats to other units, without waiting for future expansions? I guess that would qualify as a house rule...
Thanks in advance.

I've seen people gaming with Flames of War tanks for their AAMs. I don't see why you couldn't - all you need is the stat card. Besides, paying $8 per tank is cheaper that buying the rares on-line or from a FLGS. You'd just have to paint/assemble it yourself. Go for it!!
I've used the AAM rules for my 1/32 scale collection. I use 21st Century Toys tanks/troops/buildings and Forces of Valor tanks/troops/buildings. Just scale'em up a little bit.

I bought a FOW Sd 251 today with the idea of painting it gray and using it instead of the sand-colored one, but it is quite a bit larger than the one in A&A. I guess it's back to my original idea of buying some extra A&A ones and painting them gray. I did pick up some decals, too, to put on the Pz IV's. I have so many of them I thought I could afford to experiment with them a little - it's not like I'm ever going to use *9* of them in one scenario....
As to the cost of rares, I was on eBay last night, and bid on a couple just to see what they would go for. I didn't win any of them, but they all went for under $10. In another month or two, I think these are going to be more in the $5-$6 range.

I have a Tiger and Panther from FoW and they are HUGE compared to the AAM ones.

Can you take a pic and post it to compare the two? Thanks

Just as an FYI. The DCI floor rules require you to have the actual figure and card for a sanctioned tournament. What you do for fun is strictly up to you.
As far as stat cards, I know of at least one singles web site that when you click on the name of the unit brings up a full image of the stat card.

Yes, I know, and I don't have a problem with that. The odds are very small that I'm going to be playing much, if at all, in any offical events. My Tigers and T-34's will almost always be slugging it out on the open plain of my dining room table.

Totally! I use scratchbuilds and 15/20mm stuff at home all the time. And this weekend I should be getting all my other stuff out of storage :D
