View Full Version : Flamethrowers and Disruption or Damage

This question is relatively straight forward:

I disrupt or damage a flamethrower equipped unit, during its attack it rolls the required three sixes, does the -1 penalty turn these successes into 5's thereby negating the instant destruction/removal of my unit?

Turning to page 26 in the Advanced Rules, the explanation of attack dice seems to confirm this.

When a special ability grants a bonus or penalty to "each attack die," the bonus or penalty applies to each die roll.

So the question becomes does the Special Ability trump the disruption rule, or does the -1 penalty to each attack die apply to negate the three sixes by making them 5's?

I'm willing to be proven wrong, but as I understood the -1, it applied to the roll necessary for a hit, changing the base number to hit from a "4" to a "5". Most games still allow the natural sixes to remain, even in face of a penalty, so we have played it that the "6" is still a "6". Any other opinions?

Thanks for pointing us to the previous thread. Still murky by my standards, but at least it's nice to see others wondering about the same questions.
