DASL board rules for Axis & Allies Miniatures
House variants by Walt Mulder v1.0 10/10/05

Hedgerow:
• LOS across 1 hedgerow hex side is not blocked
• LOS across 2 or more hedgerows hex sides (or a combination of wall and hedgerow) is blocked
• A LOS traced straight down a hedgerow counts as 1 hedgerow for blocking purposes
• Treat hedgerows like forest as follows:
1) Hedgerow cost units 1 movement point to cross in addition to the terrain entered (remember that all units may always move one space if allowed)
2) Vehicles and “artillery” units require a success roll 4+ to cross hedgerows
3) Units with the "Excellent Suspension" ability don’t require a success roll to cross
• Hedgerows do not provide cover, only the terrain in the hex does that

Walls:
• LOS across 1 wall hex side is not blocked
• LOS across 2 or more wall hex sides (or a combination of wall and hedgerow) is blocked
• A LOS traced straight down a wall counts as 1 wall for blocking purposes
• Treat walls as follows:
1) Walls cost units 1 movement point to cross in addition to the terrain being entered (remember that all units may always move one space if allowed)
2) Only “all treaded” vehicles and soldiers may attempt to cross a wall (Jeeps, 251's, Humbars and 222's may not)
3) Vehicles and soldier units require a success roll 4+ to cross (this represent either breaking through the wall for tank type vehicles or finding a way through or over the wall for soldiers.
4) Treaded vehicles with the "Excellent Suspension" ability don’t require a success roll to cross
• Walls do not provide cover, only the terrain in the hex does that

Sunken roads:
• Treat Sunken Roads like ravines/ditches from AA:M
• Vehicles and towed “artillery” units can only enter/exit the sunken road from another road space unless it possesses the "Trench Crossing" ability, soldiers may enter/exit from any space
• Units in sunken road spaces can only attack or be attacked from adjacent spaces
• Units in sunken road spaces may also attack or be attacked from a position along the road so long as an LOS is present along that sunken road
• Sunken roads do not provide cover

Ravines:
• Vehicles may not enter/cross ravines unless they have Trench Crossing ability
• The same cover, attack, and LOS rules for a sunken roads apply to trenches
• LOS is not blocked across a sunken road or trench

Orchards:
• Orchards block LOS
• Orchards provide cover to soldiers on 5+
• Orchards provide no cover for vehicles

Multi-level hills or buildings terrain:
• Hills or buildings are considered blocking terrain for LOS regardless of elevation (i.e. you cannot fire from one hill terrain through an adjacent hill terrain to a third, whether on the same level or not)

OTHER HOUSE RULES:

Spotting for Artillery and Mortars: (I'm using this until AH comes out with their own rules for spotters)
- Leaders with Commander Abilities may be used as spotter (Red Devil Captain, Inspiring Lt, etc.). They allow one artillery/mortar unit without a LOS to a target to fire at a single target they can spot with a clear LOS. This is done during the assault phase in lieu of attacking or moving. The firing artillery or mortar unit does not need LOS to the target. (Note: the Sig33 is listed as an assault gun and not an "artillery" type)
- The Leader must be at short or medium range to be a spotter. The firing unit can be at any range.
- Any other Leader abilities still function (unless the unit is disrupted)
- A disrupted leader may not spot for artillery or mortars
- If spotting for more than one firing unit in a hex, both artillery and/or mortar units in the same hex may fire at the target

I like your rules for indirect fire, but the term "Assault Gun" is simply a term used for Self-Propelled Artillery and sometimes to a lesser degree self propelled Tank Destroyer guns.

The sIG33 was armed with a 150mm schwere Infanterie-Geschütz Model 33 howitzer. This gun was actually a common "Infantry Gun", infantry support artillery used in German artillery regiments . In my opinion the sIG33 is the only "true" infantry support artillery in the game so far, and it would be unfortunate to not include it in indirect fire rules.
