View Full Version : Unofficial FAQ
Hi there gang. Just to let you know that I'm working on getting an unofficial FAQ up on these boards within the next 24 hours. I've been sifting through old posts looking for Mike's responses to questions. I've grabbed about 30 or so questions so far and I will try my best to block these into similar sections like
Movement
Combat
SBR
NAs
Mobilization
Technologies
etc etc
The format I am proposing is
Q:
A:
link to original answer by Mike
Hopefully this will be a useful tool for the community until AH gets its act together and provides an official FAQ for the new game.
I'll also pass the original word document onto Sinister and ask him to put it on the site where he will be hosting the Rogue Commander Fan Rulebook.

This will be a great help, DY. Thanks.
I've seen quite a bit of progress on the official FAQ, by the way. This thread will give it even more progress.
Mike
Great, thanks for the thumbs up Mike. I'll need another 12--16 hours to get this posted.

here is one, please help and add mikes other quotes in this subject...
from graff : CARRIER QUESTIONS

Here's an odd one.....
it's UK turn 2. UK has a factory, aa gun, 1 Brit fighter AND ONE RUSSIAN FIGHTER in India. Nothing in the sea zone.
the UK player BUYS a carrier. When he places it in the sea zone off India, the Brit fighter "jumps" aboard, BUT what about the Russian (allied fighter).
Can it jump aboard also? I would think no, but then again, we do have all those "multi-national fighters on carrier" rules so i'm not sure. And i thought in A&A Europe, allied fighters could defend against an SBR if they were in the same territory that was getting bombed (even if it wasn't their nation's factory getting bombed).
so, a little clarification would be appreciated.
thanks much,
graaf6

Nothing I say here is official until an FAQ comes out. And I don't when that'll be.
ROCKETS
Folks, this isn't my area of responsibility, but be assured that folks at Avalon Hill are working on an FAQ for the revision. I don't know when it will be complete or posted, so please don't hound them.
Till then, please be advised that my column on this subject states the intended rule about rockets. Any typos or other errors will be cleared up in the FAQ. Please give them some time to get it put together.
Mike
I'll try to cover it all in one paragraph so you can save it. The intention behind rockets is this:
Antiaircraft guns can fire rockets for 1 die of IPC loss (subject to income maximums) in the combat phase. Each complex may only be hit once in a turn. The maximum range on a rocket launcher is three spaces. Only one gun per territory can fire, and all other guns in that space are inactive.
This is unofficial until an FAQ comes out.

Yes, DY, that would be awesome!
Thanks for the effort.
Ummm yeah guys this is turning out a lot harder than I expected :(
I've done just over two thirds of the preliminary work and I already have a 24 page MS Word document lol. I'm setting myself a revised timetable of having it done by Friday 23/04/04.
My plan is to clean up a lot of the text to make the questions short, sharp and precise. 24 pages is just ridiculous.
Also (I'm sure Mike feels the same), if I have to read one more post about placing fighters on newly built characters I'm going do a Wookie and rip someone's arms out of their sockets!

"Now..Now Chewie!" - I think it is wonderful of you to take on this monumental task!
Do you need anything? Starbucks coffee perhaps? :D (lol)

Right now I need about 8 hours sleep. I actually feel really sorry for Mike, having to answer the same half dozen questions (worded slighlty differently) about fifty billion times each!
Hopefully when this is done it will take some pressure off him. Didn't I read somewhere an interview where Mike said he doesn't even work at AH anymore?
Even if he is still on the payroll, visiting these boards is definitely a labour of love!

Thanks DY! :D
GROGnads -- every FAQ answer will contain a link to where Mike actually made his ruling.
I broke my thumb last night at rugby training, so we are back to the Friday deadline I'm afraid.

Hows the FAQ doing DY?
Soon mate, soon. Fractured thumb means I've had to blow all my IPCs and roll for left-handed mouse tech! And now i can't play America's Army online either -- it's really very annoying
