Gentlemen this is an all infantry scenario, it is very trying to the Italian player but I think it shows the strugle of trying to storm an objective with only infantry ad very little support. I hope you like it.
Saludos y Suerte :)
(I had to use all my French Infantry models as Italians for this scenario)
Title: Counter Attack in Gela (Sicily 1943, near Gela beach-head)
Synopsis: Allies landed at Gela, Sicily in the night of July 9th/10th. Despite local defense reaction, they managed to establish a bridgehead. By July 12th the 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment attached to the Italian "Livorno Infantry Division" was ordered to counter attack the beach head an push the landings back into the sea. Three strike columns would simultaneously assault the beach-head, starting at 6:00 am, after 10 minutes of artillery barrage fire. The right column was the 33rd Infantry Regiment also of the "Livorno" Division. The left column was the German "Hermann Goering" Panzer Division. The center column was the 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment.
On the Allied side US soldiers of K Company 26th Infantry Regiment 1st Division (Big Red One) were ready to stop them.
Victory Conditions: "Standard" Victory conditions apply to this scenario. (Page #7 of the Axis & Allies Miniatures Advanced Rulebook)
Allied Army build:
Elements of K Company 26th Infantry Regiment.
M1 Garand Rifle (US) x4
Mortar M2 (US) x1
Vickers Machine-Gun Team (UK) x2
Deploy First on any full hex of maps CHARLIE-2 and DOG-2 as to map configuration 6: "Tiger Heaven".
Axis Army build:
Elements of the 9th, 10th and 11th Companies 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment.
Fucile Modello 1891 (IT) x12
Light Mortar (GE) x3
The axis player deploys Second on the first 3 hexes from the edge of maps BAKER-1 and ABLE-1 as to map configuration 6: "Tiger Heaven".
Map set-up: Use map configuration 6: "Tiger Heaven" as in page #6 of the Axis & Allies Miniatures Advanced Rulebook.
Special Rules: No Special rules apply to this scenario.
Aftermath: While the right and left prongs of the attack were being stopped, badly mauled and driven back, the 3rd Battalion, without any knowledge of what was going on elsewhere, kept on moving forward, eventually finding itself exhausted and stuck in the outskirts of Gela - alone and isolated.
Infantry reinforcements were promised....however, they never arrived. After 24 hours of bitter struggle, the valorous 3rd Battalion, 34th Infantry Regiment, no longer existed.
