Well, I have to say, I really enjoyed my first playing of this today.
It reminds me of Princes of Florence a bit, but is definitely unique enough of a game.
The cards add a bit more uncertainty to what will transpire compared to other games of this type. And that isn't a bad thing. It keeps you guessing as to what will be the "right" choice for you.
The components are pretty decent too. The only question marks being the continued existence of the "American valley" in Avalon Hill boards and the material used for the individual player mats. I wonder how well the mats will hold from repeated use. They're made of a material I haven't seen in a game before so it's questionable. Several people suggested to laminate them, but then they wouldn't fit back into the box.
It was great fun and I plan to play this many many times in the upcoming days and months.
