lets say my tank is on the road, or any hex, and wants to move to a hex four spots away..but on the way an enemy unit occupies one of the hexes on my path...i know defensive fire would happen if i move within a hex next to the enemy, but if I don't get hit by the defensive fire, can my unit travel through the enemy occupied hex and keep going? Or when a unit enters a hex with an enemy does that automatically stop the unit and force combat?

There are no zones of control in AAM; the only effect of moving through enemy units is defensive fire. So your tank can go straight through an enemy hex and keep going, as long as it survives the fire. Stacking limits only apply at the end of the move.

This was asked in one of the general questions & answers threads some time ago, but I don't have a rules citation handy.
