From the answer on "one shot kill" yesterday.
As of this moment, the only way to destroy a unit immediately is with a flamethrower or for it to be a Carro Armato M13/40 that fails a flammability roll.
Highly Flammable - When this unit receives a Damaged counter, roll a die. On a 3 or higher, destroy it immediately.
From the answer above I am assuming that this means receipt of a face down damaged counter constitutes the roll.
I had been playing this differently. From the rule book it says: "Attacks and damage are applied simultaneously to both sides in the casualty phase, so going first doesn't mean that you will be able to shoot your opponent's units before they have an opportunity to shoot back." ... "you score hits" (during the assault phase) "and place face-down hit counters on it to record the hits." ... "Hits, however, don't take effect until the casualty phase."
My group had taken the "scoring and placing" of hits as mechanics of the game and that the actual receipt of the hit (and counter) did not occur until the counters were turned face up. Which meant the Carro could stil fire back and didn't roll the check until the casualty phase.
We had discussed this because of the Churhill and Flamethrower - but they do read much different being triggered by the attack rolls instead of receipt of the counter.
Could you please put this to rest?
