Historical background:
on June 13, 1944, noted tiger ace Michael Whitman recieves word of a coloum of allied tanks parked in Villers Bocage, he takes a tiger 1 and attacks alone, against unsuspecting and unprepaired british forces. His tank is eventually tracked, and he abandons it, he then returns with 4 more tigers, and a panzer 4.

Setup:
youll hafta make a map like this:
http://img455.imageshack.us/img455/6562/bocage3ea.png
all the blank hexes are clear

allies get:
3x humbers
3x 6 pounders
7x Cromwells
2x Sherman Command tanks(see stats in allied rules)
2x Sherman Fireflys(see stats in allied rules)
4x Stuarts
2x PIATs
15x SMLEs
10x M5 half tracks

axis get:
1x Whitmans Tiger (see stats in axis rules)

re-enforcements:
4x tiger 1
1x Panzer 4g
3x SSPGs
3x 251 half tracks

Rules:
no stacking limit for infantry
objective is anywhere in the town
15 turns

Allies:
all allied units get a face up disrupted counter at the begining of the first movement phase
all units fail cover rolls for the first turn
infantry may not start transported
cromwells cant use vanguard
Firefly stats:
same as sherman, veh attack of 15/13/11, inf attack of 5/5/4, extended range 10
Sherman command tank stats
same as sherman, no veh attack

Axis:
re-enforcements arrive one turn after whitmans tiger is destroyed, or on turn 7, which ever comes first
SSPG must start transported
re-enforcements arrive anywhere in original deployment hexes
Whitmans tiger stats:
same as tiger 1, veteran crew (move while disrupted, no -1 to attack die while disrupted)

it should be difficult for axis to win, and it should be difficult for allied tanks to survive
i havent playtested it yet, id use easy 8s for firefly minis, and reg shermans for the command tanks. 60 minis is alot, so i imagine it would be mostly proxies in use for this one, it includes set 2 minis too

When I first read this scenario, I thought there was no way a German could be called Michael Whitman, a very English sounding name. As it turns out, he really existed. However, Google (TM) throws up his surname in two versions, "Whitman" as written in the scenario and "Wittman(n)", which to me at least looks a bit more German. So take your pick! :)

he is the most well know german tanker of ww2, although not the highest scoring, he was killed a few months after this encounter, his tiger was hit by a rocket from a typhoon. they didnt find him until recently, when building a road, they found his tank. they just took everyone in the tank, and buried everything when it lay

This is a very good scenario. I think adding a few PzIVs to represent elements of Panzer Lehr would make the scenario more challenging, for the allied player. :p can't wait to try this out.

that would be further out from the town then fits on the map, i would need to include more fireflys and cromwells for that as well

eyewitness accounts from other tank commanders indicate wittman's tank was destroyed by a concealed AT gun. Wittman indicated the presence of AT guns via a radio shortly before his vehicle was hit. No allied air patrols were reported in the area at the time.

other eye witness accounts say a bomb hit him, or fireflys hit him, or rockets hit him,

there are so many versions that its hard to say, his tank shows no damage from ap rounds on the sides that are visable in the few pictures, and id say that any at gun would need to hit from the sides or rear to get a chance at destroying the tank before it was spotted, i would say that an ATG is one of the lesser likely theory

Michael Wittmann was killed at Cintheaux by a flanking Sherman Firefly at 700-800m.

After his tank was initially hit, it was said that his turret was leaning forward and to the right slightly, yet Wittmann was still alive and on the radio.

What most likely happened, was this round entered the engine compartment and fuel began to leak. At that time, all it would take is a spark from the damaged turret, ignition system, etc. Several seconds later, the tank exploded, most likely causing the hole to the engine deck as noted by the French farmer.

Wittmann and his crew were buried at the roadside, only to be discovered in 1983 and relocated to a cemetery nearby.

Careos and I did extensive research on this very subject a few nights ago. I stand firm at the Firefly theory.
