This has probably been disscussed before but, do you guys know if mortars are able to fire "through" forests?

Unfortunately, Mortars must have a direct line of fire like any other unit. Check out here (http://boards.avalonhill.com/forumdisplay.php?f=39) for some of the house rules on indirect mortar fire.
Maybe with the Forward Observers of setIII we will able to ignore terrain obstacle for mortars ans artillery?

Possibly, though I'm thinking they're more likely for artillery guns.
