View Full Version : Cover roll for damaged vehicles?

Hi everyone,

This weekend I played a 100 point Japanese army for the first time (because I finally pulled boosters with Japanese tanks). Making use of the forrest/jungle hexes I stumbled upon the following question when a tank was damaged.

If a damaged vehicle makes a successfull cover roll, is the attack over or is it possible to hit and disrupt that vehicle?

Thx

If teh attack is in teh same turn it becomes damaged then the attack can achieve nothing, since teh tank will already be disrupted next turn.

However if the tank is already damaged, a succesful cover won't stop it from becoming disrupted, wich means he won't be able to move next turn, nor make defensive fire.

So when the tank is already damaged and it fails the cover roll and is hit it is destroyed, and when it succeeds the cover roll and is hit it is disrupted?

A successful cover roll limits the effects of the attack do Disruption. Whether the vehicle is damaged or not has no bearing on this. If it already has a face-down disrupted counter then there is no effect (the disruption doesn't stack to last more than one turn, nor does it count as another hit and become a destroyed counter).

So when the tank is already damaged and it fails the cover roll and is hit it is destroyed, and when it succeeds the cover roll and is hit it is disrupted?

If the targeted tank is damaged (and not disrupted) then a successful cover roll against one or more hits means it will become disrupted. If, instead, it fails the cover roll then one hit will usually mean it's disrupted, and two will mean it's destroyed.

Thanks for the information.

So if I understand it correctly the following is the effect when a vehicle is hit:

Undisrupted & undamaged vehicle
Hits in single turn / face-down markers
1st hit disrupted
2d hit damaged
3d hit destroyed

Disrupted and undamaged vehicle
1st hit damaged
2d hit destroyed

Undisrupted and damaged vehicle
1st hit disrupted
2d hit destroyed

Disrupted and damaged vehicle
1st hit destroyed

Nope, still not quite right.

The actual effect is always the following, in all cases:

1st hit: Disrupted
2nd hit: Damaged
3rd hit: Destroyed

So to revise your chart, it looks like this:

Undisrupted & undamaged vehicle
Hits in single turn / face-down markers
1st hit disrupted
2d hit damaged
3d hit destroyed

Disrupted and undamaged vehicle
1st hit disrupted
2nd hit damaged
3rd hit destroyed

Undisrupted and damaged vehicle
1st hit disrupted
2nd hit damaged (two damages then become destroyed)

Disrupted and damaged vehicle
1st hit disrupted
2nd hit damaged (two damages then become destroyed)

And a cover roll, in all cases, limits the effect of any attack to disruption only.

I like to remember it as:

1. Ignore all face up counters when deciding what hits do.
2. Take into accoutn all face down counters when deciding what hits do.

This seems to solve nearly everything.

Success in a cover roll only allows the placement of a FD disruption counter. So, if there are ones already, it does nothing. If there is FU anything, just place it if you hit.

Cheers.

On every turn when you get hit in the Asault phase, your first counter makes you disrupted at the end of the phase. So in new turns, the first counter placed is always a disruption counter, every time.
