CHINA: A BRIDGE ON THE SUPERFORTRESS ROAD
(This is based on a Jimmy Stewart Movie (can't remember the name) about US Army Engineers who had to destroy the approach routes of a Japanese invasion force or lose the newly completed airfields for B-29's in Central China in late 1943/early1944. It was a good yarn and a poignanat story based on historical events. The Japanese eventually took the airfields due to Chinese interference and ineptitude but not before the US took Siapan and Tinian, the new, closer fields for the B-29's)
The Imperial Japanese forces are advancing toward the newly finished airfields used to launch raids on Japan. The B-29’s must retain these fields because there is no other area suitable for them yet.
The Japanese advance began swiftly but rains have slowed their advance. Now they face the bottleneck at Ming-Sai Pass where the main road narrows and there is only one road with bridges capable of handling tanks and large trucks.
The Kuomintang High Command has ordered it held as long as possible, but there is an American Engineer group on the way to blow the bridges if it looks like the Japanese will take them intact.
