Attack Question

Do all units have to commit to an attack,or can they attack piecemeal? My specific case was I attacked infantry with a tank and disrupted the infantry.Can I use another unit not previously committed to the attack in a separate attack,in effect ganging up when I see I've got a unit on the ropes?Thanks for any help!

Attacks are declared and resolved one at a time. You can see the effect of Unit A's attack before even deciding whether Unit B is going to attack or move.
