This is the discussion thread for War at Sea: Guadacanal Campaign Pt. 1.
Some special notes: I'm working on a scenario card for War at Sea, but rather than not put out scenarios, I'm doing it in this fashion for now. This is the first part of a campaign that combines both land and sea forces. What happens in the sea scenarios can affect play in the land based ones. The ships listed for Savo Island are not an exact representation of all forces present for the battle. The scenario is balanced for playability. |

So if any Japanese ship is in an objective turns the game ends and the Japanese win?

Yes. The Americans have to keep them out of the landing area where the transports are. The Japanese can also win by wrecking a lot of ships then taking off as what really happened at Savo Island (not really a strategic victory but this is more tactical than anything).

No new maps planned right now. I didn't do any up, though I have some excellent maps of the area in question. We'll see what Set II brings but I would like to do up proper orders of battle for this with the right numbers and classes of ships and throw balance to the wind. I'm really diggin doing these WaS Scenarios, its a nice break from all the other work I've been doing. Especially all the papers I"m writing. But since this is my first WaS Scenario, tell me what you think.

Wow, that is very interesting idea. The Naval battles affect the land wars. Neat.

Seems good. When I get some miniatures I may try it.

This looks like a sweet scenario. A couple of questions. If the Axis player automatically wins initiative they will move second, which seems good, but they will also shoot second, and with damage being resolved immediately, won't that be a disadvantage? Not sure if this is what was intended. I can't wait for the next part of the campaign.

I was operating under the SW:SSB principle of move second shoot first. when playing the first round of this scenario do that. It's the only scenario in the campaign that needs it that way. I figured it was the best way to simulate a Japanese surprise attack.
