Though I doubt that you would write the same if the KMT had "won" your civil war - history is written by the victor after all (propaganda!).

I agree with you I would have written something else had the KMT won. History and politics are intertwined.

It wasn't that long ago that feelings in the US about Japan were still fairly raw. While we were officially friends, many, particularly those who fought in Pacific or had family member who did, had strong negative feelings about Japan. Often this took the form of not buying (or saying they would not buy) products made in Japan.

It doesn't help that Japan still has problems acknowledging the full extent of its war time actions.
