Simple Question - If you have the Sky God in Play in a Gods War and you are the defender, can you play a Sky Card during the Gods War?
e.g 'Gain 3 Armies in defending territory', 'Move a God from the attacking territory....', 'Destroy 2 Armies in the Attacking Territory and gain 2 armies in the defending territory' etc. etc. All of these cards will affect the Gods War and would make the Sky God a lot more powerful than the extra Die Roll in the Gods War. Page 9 states that Sky Cards are played in response to another player's attack. etc. but there are plenty of references to an attack beginning or being initiated before the Gods War commences. And if this is the case and the cards are played, can the attacking player simply call off the Gods War if the odds get stacked against them resulting in the Defending player wasting his Sky cards. |

i believe that the cards are played before the godswars. and no once you attack one round of combat (including godswar combat) must be done regardless of cards played (except when "the ground is sacred" is played)

Godswars take place after an attack is declared, but prior to the battle of the soldiers. You follow the instructions of when to play the card as appropriate. Godswars precede battles, so the attack maybe be called off after the Godswar, but before the soldiers battle. Once the attack is declared, and the number of gods and soldiers are dedicated to rolling dice, then the defender can play Sky cards in response (pg 9). This also appears to be the only time Sky cards can be played, all at once.
Once declared, one round MUST be fought ("Calling it off," pg 10). "Attacking" is defined on pg 10 as one roll of the dice by soldiers, not a Godswar. That would suggest to me that once a battle is declared, a Godswar must be fought to conclusion, followed by one attack by soldiers, before calling it off. So, fighting one round of Godswar to provoke Sky God card play isn't allowed; you must declare the number of soldiers which will roll dice, as well as how many gods will attack. Of course, it could be used as a feint, to draw off cards from a more vital attack to be conducted elsewhere. A perfectly viable strategy. Lesson: be aware of other possibilities for card use.

Great! Thanks for the reply! Wasn't sure if you could play Sky Cards during a Godswar but it appears that they CAN be played and the Gods War MUST take place to its conclusion once declared and at least 1 round of combat by the armies.
If I understand it correctly? Is this correct? Thanks |
