Stalin's half-man, half-ape super-warriors

Just read a article like this:

THE Soviet dictator Josef Stalin ordered the creation of Planet of the Apes-style warriors by crossing humans with apes, according to recently uncovered secret documents.

Moscow archives show that in the mid-1920s Russia's top animal breeding scientist, Ilya Ivanov, was ordered to turn his skills from horse and animal work to the quest for a super-warrior.

According to Moscow newspapers, Stalin told the scientist: "I want a new invincible human being, insensitive to pain, resistant and indifferent about the quality of food they eat."

In 1926 the Politburo in Moscow passed the request to the Academy of Science with the order to build a "living war machine". The order came at a time when the Soviet Union was embarked on a crusade to turn the world upside down, with social engineering seen as a partner to industrialisation: new cities, architecture, and a new egalitarian society were being created.

The Soviet authorities were struggling to rebuild the Red Army after bruising wars.

Well according to RTCW, the Nazis tried to make an army with zombies. Can you imagine fighting zombies?

In 1926 Stalin ordered the creation of cross bred ape-men soldiers. Top animal breeding scientist Ilya Ivanov took charge of the project and in 1941, the first ape super-men became available. These soldiers received varying types of training, but were mostly utilized for close-quarters combat. At Stalingrad, they fought with distinction, severing Jerries heads with chunks of ice from the Volga.

This might actually have worked. It is possible to cross horses with donkeys to create sterile-but-tough mules. The genetic differences between people and Chimpanzees are less than those between horses and donkeys.

In any case, EXCELLENT factoid and one that I'm going to use in RPGs! Thanks!

This is something I'd like to see in a "Wacky Weapons of WWII" themed set. You know, things like Luftwaffe Rocket Packs, SS Zombietruppen, Bomb Dogs, P.1000s, Soviet Gorilla Guerrillas, and so on.
