Question Haunt 29 - Rule Clarification

This post pertains to a rule in the traitor's guide, and therefore contains spoliers

Haunt 29 - King Solomon's ring.

The rules state that the demon's must move towards the nearest human, which to me includes the traitor.

What happens if a demon enters a room in which a hero and the traitor are located? Which 'human' does the demon attack?

Does it state anywhere in the rules that the monsters can EVER attack the traitor? No? Thought not... I think Avalon Hill didn't think too carefully about their wording on this one... I would interpret it as being 'move towards the nearest hero'.

I'm sure they meant the nearest hero.
I was one of the heroes in this haunt, and used the mystic elevator hit and run technique (see that thread for more information) and wailed on the traitor.
Also, we established that when monsters move toward the nearest hero, they take the best path, not the shortest. The shortest could lead to a dead end, and we figured the monsters had to be smarter than that.

Deeply unconvinced, why use the word human, when hero is shorter and equally available.

This is as poor {substitute your own four letter word} as our solution. I'd create a hyperlink to this thread but can't find it.

I don't think this is a problem in our game, shortest & best are synonomous in our book. i.e. shortest is least consumed moves to move as controlling player sees it.

So thanks for your views

What I meant was that the shortest route or straight line to a hero sometimes leads to a dead end. If a monster has to backtrack in order to get to a hero, we use that path rather than having the monster just bumping into a wall.
As for the hero/human question, I stand by that the monsters go toward the hero. If they said nearest "player" than it could be the traitor as well. I think the "human" is just one of many unclear aspects of the rule book.

I was the traitor in this haunt and got my butt kicked. The nearest human/hero/whatever happened to be the one with the ring, so all my demons very quickly became in-league with the heroes. The Mystic Elevator was the only thing to save my Demon Lord for awhile too, what with his slow speed (thanks go out to the FAQ, as the Demon Lord's stats aren't listed in the Traitor's Tome).

For what it's worth, the Traitor's Tome says that the Demons must move toward the nearest _explorer_, but the question is still valid. My guess is that since "Demons hate all living creatures" and the Traitor can win even if he's dead, then the Demons will try to take out the Traitor as well...

In the rules it distinguishes how different words can mean different things. For instance, the traitor is still considered an explorer.

Since the scenario doesn't require that the traitor stay alive, I'd say he has to be counted as eligible for death, especially since the rules account for the demons being able to possess the ring.
