Just for Kicks: Screaming Eagles vs. Waffen-SS

Pulling the units out from my availables..

Allies: 3x SE Captain, 7x SE Paras (96 points)
Axis: 3x SS HSF, 10x SS PzGr, and 2 Wehrmacht Oberleutenant (most efficent way I can think of to expedite 29 points in 2 units, without going for MGs) (97 points)

Any standard maps from the rulebook, standard scenario rules. Who will win?

(Note: I really was just kicking back and thinking what would happen if we pit the elite Allies infantry vs. elite German infantry. And my Screaming Eagles were just sitting on the desk in front of me at the moment... )

Please feel free to sub armies in, but the constraints are as follows: Standard scenario, 100 points, 15 units, Soldiers only, >70% of pointages should be SE or SS, as appropriate..

The paratroopers get one solid hit, and then they are overpriced infantry.

I'd drop 1 x SS HSF, and 1 x SS PzGr to get an mg
divide into squads and go para hunt'in wit hthe mg giving covering fire.

With those armies, the Haupsturmfuhrers are going to keep the SS from ever being disrupted, and the WE Oberleutnants will give you the very powerful Angriff ability. Given that the SE Paras are as-good statwise agains the SS-Panzergrenadier, and that there are 3 more SS-Panzergreneadiers in this fight, I award it to the SS.

Seems like overwhelming support for the Waffen-SS, but I'm not so sure...

Individually the SE Para is on par or better than a SS-PzGr, and the SS-PzGr would never be able to use Ruthless against the SE Para. If the Paras take out enough HSFs and Oberleutenants on the first drop, it becomes a knock-down, drag-down fight that nobody really has an advantage in.. actually, in that scenario, advantage to SE.

I didn't want to include MG42s because I've seen what a pair of Vickers can do to a SS-PzGr. It simply won't had been much of a contest...

Well if we knew this is the type of battle that would happen then a wise commander would stack all his guys so that the SE Paratroopers can not get behind them. IE Stay at the edge of the board. That being said, the Germans have more units and they have better dice. I don't think it would be much of a fight, unless the German player let themselves get scattered and consequently outnumbered.

But that is just my 2cents

Quite correct, but that's a lot of axis commanders to take out - and while you're hitting the commanders, the Panzergrenadiers are hitting back against the SE units. If you target only commanders, and lose only 1-2 SE Paratroopers in the initial exchange, the SS-PG's then outnumber the SE's by 2-1, which aren't good odds even without Axis commanders.

Screaming Eagles aren't point-weighted for a straight-up fight. They are point-weighted for having a special ability that carries a lot of wait in an Objective Based Skirmish.

Ergo, in a straight fight the SE's are vastly outclassed by the SS Panzergrenadiers just on the basis of sheer numbers.

SS wins. But if you were being true to your terms you wouldn't allow them to have any non-SS units. A "true" SS build could be:

1xSS Pzr IV F (32)
1xSS Hptman (07)
12xSS PzrGrn (60)

Total is 99 pts. As long as the Pzr stays at range 1, the S.E. can't touch it.
