Well. I have seen a lot of sherman swarm armies, so here is my answer to it:
3 Carro Armatos- 36points Panzer Ausf IV- 30 points Pak 40- 14 points 2 Blackshirts- 8 points SS Hauptmanfurher- 7 points SS Panzergrenadier- 5 points Total 100 points Seeing the disrupted Shermans get killed by exploding Carro Armatos...priceless. Basically you need to dance around a lot with the Carros. The Panzer IV does the usually deploy in the rear and provide cover fire for the Carros. The Pak 40 needs to stay with you infantry fire team, if it gets disrupted then it should be removed by the SS Haptmann. The thing about the Pak 40 is that it needs to have open lanes of fire, that you enemy will not see easily. Most opponents will not think twice about it after they laugh at you Carro setup. Now for the Carros, they have a two fold job, take out disrupted shermans and hit enemy infantry. If you line up to disrupt at least one sherman a round you should be able to rush it with a Carro. It is important that you do not use your Carros to engae a full operational Sherman. It will die faster than chinese rifleman to a comissar. Run up right behind it and take it out. You should try to exchange 1 Carro for 1 Sherman. If you can do that, then you should be winning the point battle. Always try to keep the shermans far from you Panzer IV. Also you will want to engage enemy infantry with the Carro's on turn you do not have armor targets. Usually you opponent will forget the Carros have overlappign fire, so the first enemy infantry contact will probably be defensive fire against a M1 garand squad running up on you. After the first time, you enemy will probaly send its remaining infantry to the objective. If you run into a lot of anti vehicle infantry, send you fire team right into them. The fire tema I selected has the panzergrenadiers as your primary hitter with the blackshirts as cleanup. If you get a target of opportunity, like a disrupted sherman, do not be afraid to run a blackshirt in for a close assault. Finally you should be warned that this army is a laughter generator. Most people laugh a lot when they see it. For the most part it is decent, but the flammable tanks, make for a short fight. If your opponent has a big hitter then try to rush it with all 3 carros, hey it works for the sherman. Currently this army is 3-1 against opponents. Try it and post here to let me know how you did with it. I would like to hear about it. If I get enought Flamingo, then I will be swicth out the Panzer IV and Carros and have a BBQ. |

I just played a guy in a 100pt objective hex game with my Italian army. I used 5X carro, 5X blackshirts and the rest (like 5-6 I dont remember)Modells.
Opponent had para para capt 2X hellcat m1 garand 2X halftrack w/bar gunners although it wasnt a strong force, it posed some headaches. for the first two turns there was no firing. I pretty much danced my carros around until I got a rear armor shot on one of his Hellcats. I forced his halftracks to hide behind some forests. I was able to hold the objective completely until turn 6 when he dropped the para capt. in the end I ended up loosing two Carros, a blackshirt, and two Modells. There were no US units left on the table, all dead. The trick is to keep moving, dont bother shooting. Just make their presence and move. Take key positions and take all the flanking possibilities possible. |

I would have lost less if I did not loose initiative every single round. The two carros could have gotten to roll 8 dice against the hellcats, but they get removed immediatly =(

What would you rate the carro from a scale 1 through 10 (10 being the highest)

I would rate mine as a 7. It is just a cool all around piece, even with the flaws.

The Carro is very strong for its points, an 8 or 9 point tank. It has good stats against infantry (one of the few German / Italian vehicles with a good medium attack). Also, its drawback isn't much of a drawback. A damaged tank is mostly useless anyway - good luck hitting anything - so if the combustible makes the Carro cheaper, its not too bad.
Personally though, they need to be backing up a stronger tank, they are not strong enough (even a lot of them) to take on allied armor. Like a Tiger or Panther and two Carro's. |

I rate mine between 7 and 8.
Crash beedo. Certainly is a damaged tank mostly useless offesivly, but its points count full if it is to compare points at the end of game. So the flaw IS a major drawback. |
