Default Triple A

If you are interested in a Triple A game, post so here. Hopefully, we can find 5 players and have a true war! Then again, 2 people work too (oh yeah, I'm one of the players). So if you wanna schedule a game, post here!

Hey series (or should i say nerdx ) i've known it's been posted about before but i try to run AAA and all i get is a DOS window opening up for a fraction of a second and nothing else happening. I've read something about a java environment but that's a 60 MB download and that's just not doable on dialup. Is there any other solution? Like a program that just works in WinXP?

Arrow A for effort on TAAA

actually, go to the triplea site and follow the "links" section to the java site, there it will automatically install the files you need...its a web based self extracting installation that really works well, im sure for even dial up users...

we gamed on it last night, good times, though its still a beta game, its come a long way...!!!

great job from all the fans of axis & allies...!!!

-cheers

I'm actually in a 5 player game right now using TripleA and its pretty sweet. We are running it in PBEM mode to accomodate everyones schedule but we usually get through about 1 Turn every day or so. Because it can sometimes take a few hours for someone to roll their round we started anouncing or actions in film-real format.

Quote:
"His majesty's imperial army has advanced into China and India scoring a
key victory for the Axis cause. Morale among the troops is running high. But
the fate of Japans imperial ambitions still hangs in the balance. The Arms
race in the Pacific rages on as the Emperor's navy stares down the Americans in
the Solomons.

What will happen next? ... only time may tell."
I'm having an excellent time of it.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

TripleA

For anyone who would like to run TripleA but can't figure it out, I'll walk you through the Process real quick. Its actually pretty simple.

Here's what to do:

1.) Go grab a copy of TripleA 4.9 and Java

triplea:http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/t...able_0_4_9.zip

java: http://www.java.com/en/index.jsp

2.) Install

First install java which should only take a few seconds, then unzip the
triplea file (It should say 4_9 unstable) this just means that its the newest
version and has only been tested for a month. Don't worry it works great.
Once the triple a folder is on your desktop open it up and go into the
folder called bin. Here you should see a triplea.exe
Go ahead and double click it.

3.) Testing the Water

Triplea.exe will launch a little start up window
and you should see some tabs with options. Below the one that says "new
game" is a browse "file" option. Click this and select A&A 4th ed, then hit play.
This will start up a local game so you can run a couple rounds against
yourself just to get a feel for the program. (Right click and hold to move
around the map)

4.) Setting up a Game

Once you feel comfortable with the set up (dice rolling, map movement
etc) Quit out of triplea and restart the .exe file. Just like last time hit
browse and select A&A 4th ed. But this time also hit the tab that says
"Local" in the main window. You should see 4 options for gameplay: Local,
Server, Client and PBEM. Server will allow you to host games, and client allows you to join them. Just make sure you (and your opponent) have the same IP and port numbers selected and you can play in real time. PBEM= Play By E-Mail. If you select this one you should see a new tab at the top right of the window called PBEM. This is where you go to input
the email addresses of the people who are playing. Put in your email address
and your opponents. Then hit test: in a few seconds you should see a message that says "success!" this means that you have entered 2 valid email addresses. If you get an error message make sure you turn off any firewalls as this can mess
with the remote dice roller. (Note: you can read up on how to run PBEM games with more than 2 players in the documents section of the tripleA mainpage)

5.) Get ready to play.

Find an opponent and choose your game style. You can meet up with people in the TripleA chat room (accsesible from the main website) or contact people through email or forums to set a time for a game. If you go into the chat you may see a few people hanging out but not responding. This is because a lot of tripleA players just idle in the chat room and check back every half an hour or so. If you do the same there's a good chance you'll land a quick pick up game.

Here's a little description of how things might go in a PBEM game. You contact someone threw email and get them to agree to a game. As the Allies you kick things off with RUssia. You purchase your units and make all your combat moves. When you run you battles for the combat phase you will notice a slight pause before
each roll. This is the remote diceroll confirming your rolls and sending the
results to the email adresses you specified. Go ahead and run all your
battles and make all your non combat moves. After russia's turn is completed
and Germany is at the roll tech phase, save the game. (something like
"Russia1" or "USSRturn1")

Then send the save to your opponent as an email attachment. He will roll his turn and
send you a new save called "Germany1" (or something similar) you do the UK and so on and so forth.
Then if you meet up in real time you can continue the game you started in PBEM
and run your turns that way.

You'll find that PBEM is quite fun once you get the hang of it. You should
get 1 or 2 turns everyday with no pressure to stay up for seven hours at a
time

Hope that helps and remember you can always get more info from the TripleA website/forums. For those of you who like to custimize your games make sure to check out the Documents link on the main page. Here you will find more info on how to edit units, territories rules etc.

http://triplea.sourceforge.net/index...id=7&Itemid=29

Look forward to playing against you soon.

P.S. I'm running tripleA on WinXP right now

In the window that pops up during combat, look at the very bottom border and click there. It took me a while to figure that one out too.

Oh man, this is so cool! Just playing around with the game tonight and it's really awesome! Movement and combat is fairly intuitive. Nice setup. I love the scrolling map (don't have to keep moving from one side of the other when moving units across the US). Great job by the programmers! The only one complaint so far is the colors. With the exception of Russia, they all seem to blend into each other. Other than that, it looks really good and I'm hoping to try out a game this weekend... that's if the wife doesn't get to me first . You married guys know how it is ... you think you have the whole day free, next thing you know, you're mowing the lawn, redoing this, redoing that, moving this, moving that, and before you know it, your whole day is gone ... maybe I can fake an injury
