This one is the Dr.'s but none the less, hasn't been answered.
Question: A successful cover roll limits the effect of an attack to Disruption (ref rulebook p.24). Does a successful cover roll change the number of hits? Example: Unit A attacks an undamaged Vehicle in cover and scores 2 hits. Without cover the result would be to place both a Disrupted and a Damaged counter on the Vehicle. In this example, the Vehicle makes a successful cover roll and the effect of the attack is limited to Disruption. Here is where the confusion begins. Rulebook p.24: (on a successful cover roll) If the unit already has a face-down Disrupted counter, don't place another counter. So the Vehicle has a single, face-down Disrupted counter at the end of Unit A's attack. Now Unit B attacks the same Vehicle and rolls successes equal to the Vehicle's defense (1 Hit). The Vehicle then fails its cover roll. What is the effect of the attack? Possible Answer #1: The Vehicle has 1 Hit from A's attack and 1 Hit from B's attack for a total of two Hits, resulting in face-down Disruption and Damage counters. Rules text supporting this interpretation: Rulebook p.16 Hits: If you score hits against an enemy unit during your assault phase, place face-down counters next to it. - The first hit counter ... Disrupted. - The second hit counter ... Damaged. Rulebook p.24 says on a made save roll to not place a second Disrupted counter, therefore the vehicle would have one counter (Hit) from the first attack. Possible Answer #2: The Vehicle has 2 Hits from A's attack and 1 Hit from B's attack for a total of three hits, resulting in a Destroyed counter. Rules text supporting this interpretation: The cover save rules on page 24 are vague as to whether or not a successful cover save changes the number of hits. Was the instruction to not place a second face-down Disrupted counter meant to change the number of Hits or was it merely a reminder that a second face-down Disrupted counter has no game effect? |
